Getting into 2nd smoothly

Hey everyone! I bought a 2012 Mustang GT about a year ago and ever since I've gotten it I've noticed it's sometimes difficult shifting from 1st to 2nd without getting the "double lurch." I've tried almost everything I can think of, but it's hard getting a smooth transition from 1st to 2nd. All the other gears are as smooth as butter. The shifter it self goes into gear fine, but when I let off the clutch, the car seems to jump. I'm still new to driving a manual so any advice on this would help out greatly! Thanks so much.

Try giving a little more gas and/or let go of the clutch slower, more swiftly.

Thanks for the reply! I tried giving it a little more gas today and surprising I didn't get the "jolt" I usually do. I guess I was letting the rpm's drop too low? I was told that buying a CAI and getting a tune can help give me better throttle response. Do u guys think this would help out as well. Thanks again

Buy the MGW shifter and your problem will disappear.

I seldom use first gear anymore, unless I'm trying to be 'spirited'.

I don't think this problem is the shifter (note how he said it does into gear smoothly).

I thought about a new shifter but I just wasnt sure if that would solve the problem. I did start pulling out in 2nd and that solved the problem all together haha. Does doing that wear the clutch out more?

I think it's the skip shift feature, It wants you to skip 2nd gear and go into 3rd and save alittle gas. I had mine disabled with my tune. I read on hear where someone disabled thiers manualy fron under the car. You might find it with a search.

yeah, i strongly dislike the skip shift feature. I plan on getting a tune soon, so I will mention to get rid of it so I no longer have to deal with it!

Feather the clutch a little when going 1-2 at a low rpm. I had the same problem till I learned the proper throttle and clutch magic.

Yeah I just recently learnt this too, I'm on my third day and I'm learning alone and you've had it for a year? geez I would've given up lol

The clutch grabs so high and I thought you had to go all the way down and let it out fast before, but I was wrong

Practice practice practice, and even that is not a guarantee. I have had mine for 16 months and I still dont get it right every time.
I drove a LS1 T56 Firebird for 13 yrs and could engage the clutch so smoothly most people would think it was an automatic. But this Mustang still gives me fits at times.
More RPM does help but I think part of the problem also lies in the lag from the Electronic Throttle. And as far as starting in 2nd gear goes, there really is no issue as the gearing is steep enough to get the car moving with only a slight slip of the clutch.
And just pull the plug on the skip shift.

Then you don't use 1st gear leaving a light?

I start off in 2nd a lot. First gear seems like a waste most of the time unless I really want to accelerate quickly.

Yes I frequently take off from 2nd as well. I have the 3.73 gears and in normal driving, starting from 2nd works perfectly.

To the OP. Take a look at where your RPM's are when you first start in 2nd. Now when you shift from 1st to 2nd, notice where the RPM's have dropped to and when 2nd engages, watch where those RPM's "lurch" to. What you need to do is rev matching. Try revving your RPM's up to where your 2nd gear engages and then slip the clutch. It'll be smooth as butter

Many people only think of rev matching during downshifting. But many times, you also need to do it with upshifting. Especially if you have more aggressive gearing.
