Thumbs up Get the 2013 Mustang?

Hey guys I'm new to ford , been a Toyota guy for a while and I want something fun so I'm choosing a Mustang! Problem is, I don't know which one. Part of me says get the new redesigned 2015 one but I'm scared it'll be unreliable since it's a whole new platform.

Is Ford reliable with first year models or should I not risk it and get the 2013/2014 models?

Thanks guys

I would wait and see what the 2015 actually looks like. Then I would go drive both and see which one I liked better. Any first year redesign will have some problems, but 13's and 14's have problems also. You just have to hope you get a good one.

Personally I'd say get the 13 or 14. I love mine so much in every way. I hope the 15 is beautiful and flawless but I don't at all care because I'm in love with mine.

I just feel like I'm going to regret it when I see 2015s rolling in.. If the 2014 has as much problems as a new model year car, wouldn't it be worth it to wait? But I want one by September! #firstworldproblems haha

I'd wait to see the '15.

There's a similar thread here, although it's '15 v '16

I wouldn't say the 14 has as much as the 15 will, generally speaking. We don't know if anything will be wrong with the 15 but were just guessing.

I'm a Chevy guy and never owned a Ford in my life, but I decided to buy a 2013 Ford Mustang. I love the looks and the interior. I say go for the 2013. Good luck.

Unless your in need of a vehicle right now because your current one died, why would you not wait to buy a mustang. Why would you not want to see exactly what the 15 has to offer . You can always buy a 13 or 14 any time.

Bro, if you look at the 15 model and love it, them pull the trigger and buy it. If you hate the 15 model then just go out and buy a crazy low mileage pre owned 13 or 14. Heck, they will be all over the place. People will be selling there 13 and 14 models just to have the 15 because they love them and have money to waste. Its a win win for you.

My advice to you is hold off and see in person and test drive a 15. Were so close. You know there will be thousands and thousands of mustang owners out there that won't mind loosing money on selling there year old stang.

Wow that's very true, never thought about pre owned thank you. I might need a car though by this fall, is there a good way to get a beater car for about 6 months to get me at point A and Point B? Iv looked on Craigslist but there's so much and not sure how much is good to spend, also I don't want to be stuck with a beater car that no one wants to buy down the road, any advice on that?

Well, I hear ya on the beater car. Certainly , if your in a situation where you need a car and waiting a year is not an option then I can understand about buying the 14 model. If you are like me and have zero mechanical skills then a beater may not be good unless you have good friends that are good mechanics. Lol.

You could buy a used 2011 Mustang now, since it is mostly the same as the new ones, and has already taken the hit on depreciation. Then if the 2015 Mustang comes out and you feel like you have to have it, you won't be out much money on the '11 if you sell/trade it for a 2015 Mustang. If you get a new 2013/14 now and decide you want a 2015 in a year or two, you'll take a huge hit on depreciation.

You certainly could pick up an 11 and save money than buying a 13 or 14 but if you go to sell that a year later, your still gonna take a loss to a degree. Not as big as a 13 or 14 loss. The 11's are the same car when it comes to performance and acceleration. The v6 model has the same HP and the V8 11 has 8 HP less. A pre owned 11 would be the best way to go if you really want right now a mustang and thinking of a 15.

Personally, I would just wait being that were so close to the new redesign of the 15 but an 11 is a great idea if you want a pony now.

My 2013 has been flawless, and it does make me nervous about first year models of anything. That being said, I would wait to at least see what Firs comes up with for the 2014.5.

Thanks for the advice everyone, I will probably wait at least to see what the 2015 has to offer, few questions though;

1. Do you guys think the 2015 will have even more standards than the current gen? ( maybe standard bluetooth, hid, etc)?

2.Do you guys think there will be a price raise on the next gen?

Keep an eye on the '15 section of the forum..........most of this is being discussed there.

FWIW, HIDs are currently standard on the Mustang. Will they still be standard going forward? Who knows.

I'm real curious about the new model as well, and I keep up on the 15 part of this site. I'm just afraid the car will look too euro. I fell in love with the 13's (test drove a 12). IF I were to get another new mustang, I'd wait a year or two, in fact I told my wife yesterday my plan is to get a 17 Shelby GT 500 if they make 'em.... we'll see.

When the S197 came out in 05 I bought brand new. I never had any problems with old Sonic other then in 07 I had to let her sit for 6 months (was out of state for work) and I had to replace the battery upon return. For Ford's sales I would say buy a 13-14, they are greast cars but personally I would wait to see what the 15 is all about...
