Which GAS??

IDK if this topic has been battled out by everyone, but I'd like to know which gas is best for your mustang?

I've heard the Sunoco 94oct is best, but there aren't too many Sunocos offering it anymore. I've heard other saying Mobil,Shell And Chevron are best (93oct)

If anyone has some factual info that would be awesome!!

Mobil/chevron yes, the Shell gas stations around here(that I've been to) are garbage. Octane rating depends on you car (tuned, etc...).

I do believe there are other threads regarding this topic, maybe not in this sub forum.

Unless your car is tuned for 94, you're wasting money. The car is stock tuned for 91 if I remember right, as it's the highest octane available all over the US.

Try several different station brands and see what runs best in your mind for your car. I find that it varies based on location. We have more 93 than 91 around here...plus it is only a couple of dollars per tank difference. Not going to break us....lol.

Mine is tuned for 93 and the car runs unquestionably better using non-ethanol.

We have 93 octane at every gas station way down here in Alabama.

I prefer sunoco if possible- no ethanol there...ehanol shouldnt hurt newer cars, but some cars run better on real gas.

my wifes 5.3L avalanche likes the cheapest grocery store gas you can put in it, the wimpy 85 octane in high altitude colorado ran super...put decent gas in it, the mpg sucks...gets up to 24 mpg highway on crap gas, 20-21 on sunoco?

my mustang(06) likes sunoco 87, daily commute averages 18mpg, on sunoco 89 it averages 20, but has a slight stumble at takeoff(no tune), best track runs were 1/2 87, 1/2 89...

every engine/tune will have a 'peak' fuel requirement. high octane is useless unless the timing is advanced to take advantage of it ('11-up ford adaptive tune does- but I dunno if it 'stops' at around 91 or 93 ?) best probably is to try a couple tanks each if you have a pretty 'average' commute and see what works for you the best- my guess is unless retuned that 93/94 will decrease power and mpg, as better gas just burns too slow... a high mpg/high octane tune should be possible, but most high octane tunes are tweaked for max power, who knows...

I believe he means that you can get 91 octane anywhere in the U.S., thus it's the highest octane available everywhere in the U.S. Since there are many places that do not sell 93 octane, then 93 octane is not the highest grade of gasoline you can get everywhere.

Right...but like I said, there's a lot of states (like Missouri, for example) where 91 is the highest they sell, so Ford tuned the car for 91.

I kinda read it wrong. Maybe I'm dyslectic.

Around here its chevron. My tuner tested a few different brands from a few different stations and Chevron was the closest to holding its octane rating. The techron additive is very good also.

The factory tune changes based on octane or Ford wouldn't have rated the engine at 405 hp on 87 and 412 on 93. Some cars say premium fuel only. The Mustang is not one of those.

I get better gas mileage out of 87.

I don't think it's mandated but the bigger companies have agreed to it I believe. And they are mandated to label the pumps containing ethanol.
