Ford TSB Warns Of Modifications To 2011-2012 5.0 Mustangs

http://www.themustangnews.com/conten...-5-0-mustangs/

"Ford has tidal waves throughout the Mustang modding realm this week, issuing a new Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) to dealers that essentially says, “If an owner has modified their 2011-2012 Mustang 5.0 drivetrain, their warranty is void”."

Hmmmm....

Several thoughts:

"Duh!"
You mod your motor, you take you're own risks. Why should Ford replace some motor because some meathead lashed a 27psi turbo system to their 5.0 only to find it spread across three acres of Iowa farmland as a fine metallic powder?

"Ford, better build a little cushion in the specs, starting forging more stuff"
Yes, technically, you start wrenching on your motor, the first result is a null and void motor warranty. Realistically, if the 5.0 gets the reputation for having a glass jaw and of Ford getting all pissy and legalistic about it, well, there are Messieurs Chevy et Dodge across the street who'd be more than happy to sit you in one of their rumbling new pony cars. So Ford better not get a case of menstrual cramps at the mere thought of a header or CAI.

So granted the new 5.0 isn't like the old 5.0 with steam age specific power outputs and rooms/auditoriums of power enhancements left to do, neither is the 5.0s specific power rating of around .8 anywhere near the outer limits of current standards either. My decade old M3 comfortably puts out over 1hp/liter (did I mention it's a decade old?). This ain't the motor off the Millennium Falcon after all.

And really, people ARE going to mod the thang -- hello reality check, Ford. Sure, if some apes are blatantly stupid about what they do, pull out the big, red "denied" stamp for their warranty claim. But that is already true so why make a big snit about it that will only draw negative attention. Perhaps you Ford has a few too many lawyers/MBA suits with not enough to do lately?
