I know of other that had problems with Mobil 1 in there 5.4 motors, but put that on 0W 20. I also know of many running it without problems, so I don't have the answer to it either.
I have run Vavoline in everything except my 5.4 in my 03 F150 and never had an issue with anything Oil related in 33 years of driving.

 

Same here. Been using that low tech dino for decades and hundreds of thousands of miles on various rigs with same results. LOL

However, I use the blend for my Bullitt. These days I don't put that many miles per year but I definitely want to flush the blow-by impurities out. So super duper long lasting expensive magic synth oil doesn't match my application.

 

Mobil 1 here, but I let someone else do it. I hate the disposal part of things, and it's cheap enough to let them feed their families a lunch or dinner.

But I have no qualms about running what's factory either. My previous cars lasted well over 100,000 miles on their spec'd dino oil, as long as it was changed in a decent frequency.

 

When I get a new 5.0 Mustang I'll probably repeat the same plan as for my '08 GT. Ford synth blend until out of warranty, then Mobil1 once a year (or two depending on mileage). I don't put a lot of miles on my Mustang, so throwing away perfectly good M1 after a year would be a waste.

I always change my own oil on all of our cars, the only expeption was on our Mini Cooper which had free maintenance included for the first three years. There is a shop a mile away from my house that has a waste oil powered furnace, and I just take a 5-gallon bucket of used motor oil down there once or twice a year and dump it in their tank.

 

Motorcraft Semi 5W20 has very good base stock and is actually better than some full syth oils.

MC semi 5W20 is also cheap.

The only benefit to using full syn oils is long OCI's which I know I cannot allow myself to accept. If you drive a lot of miles in a short time, go full syn. You lose the benefits of full syn on short OCI's.

FWIW, I had issues with my '08 and Mobil 1 switched to MC semi and it runs like a top.

 

When I had my car done at Steeda, had an oil change as well (first one) at 4K. They didn't ask me. They put in Mobil 1 and a Ford filter.
I don't always change oil religiously, so syn. gives me a little piece of mind.
In the "old days", when cars started to use oil due to ring wear, you would start using straight 30 or 40 wt. (and STP lol ) to lessen consumption. So possibly,those using/loosing oil with Mobile 1, the rings possibly didn't seat optimally.( hard break-in theory).
I've also heard (second hand) a consumer report article stating reg. oil giving the same engine life if changed at recommended intervals.

I searched and searched trying to find bad things about the Motorcraft Synthetic Blend and Full Synthetic motor oil. I couldn't find anything really bad about them. The Amsoil test i found were all done using the Motorcraft 'Synthetic Blend' oil, which seemed to me to have performed in the middle of the pack, so i figure the Motorcraft 'Full Synthetic' would test better if they had used it. Today i bought 3 FL 500-S oil filters from O'Reilly's auto parts for $7.99 each. I had to go to my local Ford dealer to buy 18 quarts of Motorcraft Full Synthetic motor oil at $7.21 a quart (OUCH!!!) That is a little cheaper than the Royal Purple i used in my last car.

 

I've just learned something about Ford putting semi-synthetic oil in our new 5.0's. I taught they had regular 5W20 in there. Oh well.

Your right Dan. Synthetic Blend is factory fill in the V-6 also. My Dad's 2010 Taurus came with Synthetic Blend too.

 

Since my 2011 GT and 2011 Escape both came with Motorcraft blend and filters, and I'm extremely pleased with the performance and mpg on both, I will pick up the same oil and filters at Walmart.

Then I'll let the friendly neighborhood quick change guys do it for me, like they have for my C6 for the past 4 years until trading it for the GT. Both my cars use 'odd' amounts ( 8qts and 5 1/3 qts), so I'll have to pick up 3 5 qt containers. I'll change both cars when the computer tells me to, I expect that to work out to be about once a year or 10K. That's what it was with the C6.

 

Synthetic blend has been factory fill for probably close to a decade with Ford.

Regardless of what brand or what type of oil you use, IMO, changing the oil is cheap insurance for your car. It will cost you probably $50-100 depending on what product you choose, so why not do it more than once a year? Personally, I change mine every 3 months or 5,000 miles - never heard of a car having problems from having too fresh of oil.

I may ask the dealer techs when I take mine in for the first time tomorrow (state inspection) but I expect to use Castrol Syntec and whatever high quality filter (usually K&N or Purolator Gold) Advance Auto has as part of the oil change special. 5 quarts of Syntec and a filter for usually $27.99 - regular price for those six things would be almost $60 so it's a great deal. That's how I do it at least.

I just had my second change at the dealers'. I do one and let them do one for warranty purposes. I did my first change at 2800 miles, using Mobil 1. I have been using it since 1978, to include four years on the Autobahn in the "other" 5.0. I have never used any oil. I have 13,000+ on my 2011 and no oil use from day one. I also use it in my wifes' car, 2009 Passat wagon, 2.0T. No oil usage, even with the turbo.

The dealer uses full synthetic since that was my choice. The full service was $72.00. They discounted the oil and filter as listed on the invoice, so I have no complaints. And, the car comes back just as clean as when I brought it in.

The changes I do at are at the local Air Base and I just dispose of the oil at the Auto Hobby Shop, which has a drive on lift. Makes the changes a breeze.

I am going to stick with 5000 miles changes due to the adverse weather conditions here. I figure once a year to the dealer (warranty) and then I will keep doing the other one.

I was going to have them do the fluid change TSB on the MT-82, today, but honestly, since it is better then ever, I figured why kick a sleeping dog. I will just leave it alone as I have the 7/100,000 bumper to bumper ESP should it fail later.

 

yep autozone will take your drain oil for free also.

 

Do they take your old anti-freeze too?
