Ford Synthetic Blend or Full Synthetic Oil?

Was just wondering what you guys thought about using the factory recommended oil Ford Synthetic Blend vs. Full Synthetic Oil, especially if you're NOT changing the oil yourself.

I have changed my oil on my Ford truck several times myself, just simply because it's lifted and very easy to get to... but I can't see myself wedged under the Mustang.

Any thoughts and comments are appreciated!

Ford has tested the engine to the extremes on the motorcraft synth blend and has proven it to be reliable to 10,000 mile between oil changes. In my opinion no need for full synth or spend the extra money if you like most people plan to drive it somewhat normally and only keep the car till the next model redisign. If you plan on keeping for 10+ years maybe.

However I would recomend the Ford Racing PP high performance oil filter.

I ran the Semi Synthetic in my F-150 until I sold it, I just switched my 2010 over to Valvoline full synthetic on the last change, I plan on keeping it for a while, and I put over 30k a year on my car.
I do change my own oil also.

Question about those of us that put on low mileage. I will probably do about 4000 miles a year in my GT. Does that mean i should change my oil only once every 2 years or does the oil go bad just from time passing?

You should change it periodically no matter what mileage you drive.

My '07 only has about 7.5K miles, but I still change the oil once a year with Mobil 1 full synthetic.

I'm using the factory synthetic blend until 3,000 miles. Then i will change over to full synthetic. Mobil 1 (top of my list so far) with a Motorcraft filter. I used Royal Purple in my last car but it seems to be missing some of the oil standards certifications. I guess Mobil 1 must be pretty good motor oil, to be factory fill for a lot of 'high dollar' cars.

Motor oil can be a touchy subject.

My first oil changed I used Ford Synthetic Blend. Going forward I'm not quite sure yet.

My last car I used Mobil 1 and changed every 5k. But that car only took 4 quarts. So if I change every 5k with Mobil 1 that requires 8 quarts, it can add up pretty quick. Especially since I put close to 20k on the clock each year.

So at ~$5 per quart at Wal-Mart (5qt Jug of Mobil 1), that is $40 for oil and ~$7 for whatever filter I decide on. So lets say $50 per oil change. 4x per year = $200.

Now Ford Synthetic Blend using the same math above it probably cost $30 total for an oil change. 4x a year = $120.

So for me is it worth $80/year ($6.67/month) to have Mobil 1 in my car? I think I just talked myself into it.

Sometimes you need to just write the numbers down to see what you are actually saving.

For those that use Valvoline Synthetic, is it cheaper than Mobil 1?

I've been back and forth between Motorcraft & Mobil 1. Next change going to try Pennzoil Ultra. I can't say I've seen any difference in smoothness or fuel economy on them.

I use Mobil 1 in all my vehicles, I know it isn't really needed but it makes me feel good

You can buy 5-quart jugs at WalMart for about $25 and provide it to the oil changer if you don't do it yourself, to me it is "cheap insurance"

This.

It will go 10000 miles, but you also dont want it sitting in the engine too long without running.

Also Mobil 1 all the way.

We keep cars 15+ years. 200,000-300,000 miles. Have been using Mobil 1 since the early 80's. Using Motorcraft full synthetic in the Mustang. We have never experienced an engine problem (knocking on wood).
Always buy manuals and have never replaced a clutch or had a transmission failure (still knocking on wood).

$25 for 5 Quarts at Walmart, so it is the same price.
I will not use Mobil 1, put it in my Mazda 3 at the 3rd oil change and it went through 2 quarts in 4000 miles. A friend said he had the same problem and Switched to Valvoline Synthetic so I tried it, no oil usage in 30,000 miles when I traded for the 2010 I have now.

That's funny you mention that regarding mobile one, I've experienced that very same thing when using it in my 5 series BMW.
