Thanks for posting joe!

I found it VERY informative. Just re-affirms my decision to stick with FRPP (as long as price is reasonable). Only other ones I trust ar Roush, Saleen, Steeda...

I have been flirting with getting the calibration tool for my 2010 GT. Good article.

It is a good article. Some seem to be a bit like propaganda but most of it seems to be pretty accurate. Ford may not have the most aggressive tuning but I would think it would be the best for longevity of the vehicle since...well they did build it. Also have a ton of in house systems of their own.

Good read, however, I wouldn't take it as the gospel on aftermarket tuning, I mean Ford is trying to sell THEIR product. That written, they do make a logical case.

While Ford is in business to sell their product, the article isn't written so much as "all other stuff is bad", as "make sure you are comparing apples to apples" and that the tune won't hurt the car. In my view it arms the purchaser with the right information to allow them to ask pertinent questions. Heck we're already all over tuner dyno claims based upon test conditions, this just ups the ante.

After reading the article would I be more inclined to buy from FRPP, definitely. But I am still open to tuners' packages, but I'll want to know that the tune isn't sacrificing the longevity of the car.

Interesting read. But I have never had an issue with my 06 GT and any of the tuning done by Brenspeed with my mods. Just cant justify paying the same or more for FRPP stuff and not netting the same level of results that the good aftermarket tuners get.

What tune is Wasvette using? He has the most miles on his car than anyone else. I'm using Ford Racing's CAI but Brenspeed's tune. I have 78,000 miles on my car. I'd like to think I'm not shortening my car's life by not running Ford's tune.

Good read. Definitely worth bringing up a few questions with the tune supplier if you're unsure.

He list a VMP 93 Tune in his sig. I don't think you're hurting anything as long as you're getting detonation.

I didnt know Ford offered a tune. Has anybody tried one? I am not so much out for max performance like some but perhaps the tune takes care of some drivability issues like throttle lag ect... My 03 has a cable to the throttle body and the first thing I notice in the newer cars is the slow response. Being a old fart I grew up on carbed cars and like how they responded to throttle imputs. Well, that is if they were dialed in right otherwise I have nothing good to say about carbs for the most part. I have not driven a 11 Gt but if its like the 05 to 10 I bet there is a lag. I guess its relative to what your used to. I would give up power in a heartbeat to fix some of that and retain the long term durability.

Did I read right that the Ford tune wont void your warranty?

I read that article a while back. While they do make a very good case about tuning that doesn't mean that Ford is the only one that knows how to tune.

<plug ON>
I presented said evidence to a number of tuners and I only found ONE that I would trust...and did...Justin @ VMP.

I wanted extra mpg's from mine on the way across the USA so I ordered a 91 octane tune (cuz I didn't know the octane of the different States). I got an honest 2 mpg better over FRPP's tune that came with their CAI.
<plug OFF>

No, I'm not affiliated with VMP in anyway and don't get nuthin' for sayin' anything. I'm just a concerned owner and didn't want to screw my car up either AND I know from past experience on the 89 that tuners aren't created equal and I don't trust anything canned.

Just my .02 - Saleen 89-215

RedCandy, thanks for the invite. You were right about that other forum, what a joke that place is.

Yea you will find this place much more grown up. Not that we do not disagree but there is no childish name calling or cussing at each other.

I have no problem with reasonable debate, that's just expected. But that place was ridiculous. God forbid you should actually agree to some extent with the FRPP article.

The only thing that I gained from it was that I didn't know that Steeda was making adaptive performance calibration tunes that are endorsed by Ford. That's pretty cool, but unfortunately none for the V6. I'm just leary about the hand held tuners. I tend to agree with automagically.

The Ford tune (91 oct) did help the throttle lag, improved the sound, and made the car more fun to drive in my opinion.

The warranty and service part of the deal is why I chose to stay with the Procal 2. Along with Ford's warranty, my selling dealer gave me other "service" deals as part of purchasing the car, and I didn't want to give them an excuse to exclude me from those offers.

Despite what Ford's website states, I still had my local Ford dealer give me something in writing with regard to not voiding the warrenty in any way with the tune.

If you search the these forums you'll find tons of info on the subject.
