Ford kills BOSS engine for Mustang, F-150.
Can't say I'm suprised with $4.00 gas and all.

The decision to not put this in the mustang was WAY long time ago.
Right around the time they killed the 5.8 version.
Too large, too thirsty, too heavy.
Not to worry though... HP isn't dead yet.

Perhaps a bit unfortunate, but hardly surprising given today's and tomorrow's likely fuel price realities. Reports are somewhat varied, indicating that only one size varient (5.8?) is being killed off and that the 6.2 will go in far fewer vehicles (platforms) than originally intended. As Boomer says, that the Boss isn't making an appearance in the Stang has perhaps been a reality for some time now, it probably would have made a perfect Mach I motor. Myabe, however, it still could as a rather limited SE, but I doubt that given Ford's far more pressing concerns.
In the mean time, it'll probably be a Mod-motor derived 5.0 that will give the Stang its oats, probably in 4V form with around 400hp for the GT and with a pair of turbos plumbed into it for 500hp in GT500 duty. My guess too is that, while the hoary old 4.0 may drag the cart for 2010, the 3.5/3.7 will be harnessed up for '11 approaching 300hp, or maybe 275 in natually aspirated form and perhaps 325hp or so in TT Ecoboost form as an base or option on the GT.
One wild card might be a version(s) of the Mazda MZR motor to get MPG averages up, perhaps even the Turbo DI version as some sort of econoperformance option? All just rampant speculation on my part, but having lived through the seventies, which are not dissimilar in tone to today's energy worries, such things might just come to be. Given that the MZR scoots the MazdaSpeed 3 along at a prodigious pace, it would probably do pretty well pushing even the heavier Stang along.

Probably the V6 will replace the V8, especially if the V6 will generate more HP than than standard 4.6L v8 that we have right now.
My guess is:
3.5 L V6 + Supercharger = 350 HP
4.0 L V6 + Supercharger = 390 HP

Not for a while if at all.
The V8 is still cheaper to make than the V6TT
The TTv6 will be a premium engine.
The V8 will be a mass produced workhorse (pun intended) for the F150 and Mustang.
In reality, The 5.0 COULD eventually bow in TT... this is always a possibility...
but.. for the forseable future, i'd still look towards the 5.4.
That engine can make stupid power.

And the Ecoboost (Turbo) V6 will apparently be used, not supercharged versions.
Actually the opposite has just happened in the F150 with the base 6 being replaced for 2009 with the base 4.6 2V V8 because it gets slightly better mileage than the 6.
It wasn't supposed to be in the Mustang, but who knows what cars like the GT500 or SE's could have got in the future, now Ford only cares about appeasing the anti-car nuts.
The Raptor is dead as well.
Meanwhile, other companies keep churning out nice little performance cars, and improving theuir engines, etc.
I wouldn't be surprised to learn that they've killed all ecoboost engines larger than 2.0L's, with the way they are looking at things, nothing matters anymore but fuel economy, I wouldn't be surprised to learn the 5.0 is dead in favor of a economy tuned 4.6

What would you rather have? A 6.2L gas guzzling heavy *** 425hp or 5.0 fuel efficient and lighter than a hurricane engine 425hp? hrmmmmm

And the 5.0 IS more better (yes..i said more better) than the outgoing 4.6.
The sky is NOT falling.
Today, the 2010 Mustang boss engine got killed.
Tomorrow (and I hope not) they will evaluate possibilty of V6 turbo or supercharged as a replacement.
"Another high performance V8 engine has fallen to the $4+ dollar gas prices. The Boss engine, which was slated to appear in the rumored Boss Mustang and F-150 will now only have a home in the Super Duty which needs a more efficient replacement for it’s 6.8L gas guzzling V10. The news isn’t really shocking to most of us, just disappointing, as gas prices were making a high performance, large displacement motor much less feasible for the Mustang. Ford will likely take the funding for the Boss engine and point it toward much more fuel efficient programs such as the Ford Fiesta which will be making it’s appearance in American soon. "

No V8! That's crazy talk!
