It doesn't matter where you buy it right? I may have to PM you and get the name.

So if you buy 6yr / 100k warranty w/$100 deductible, do you still have the pay the deductible before the original 3 yr 36k mile warranty runs out?

The biggest consideration is how much will the price change during that 3 year period. I'm of the opinion that if the price seems fair, lock it in today. Even if it's just a nominal increase and the interest earned on the money would have been more, the peace of mind of knowing I'm locked in is worth it.

And it's transferable to a new owner for $75.

So, how does it work if I wait until 3 years / 36k miles, then buy a 6 year / 100k warranty? Am I covered until the car is 6 years old / 100k miles, or until it is 9 years old / 136k miles?

You're covered until 6 years or 100k total miles. It's not an ADDITIONAL warranty. It's an extension.

One of the dirty secrets the Ford Dealers don't tell you about is that the powertrain warranty used to be 3/36 as well. But several years ago it got bumped to 5/60. But they didn't lower their warranty prices to reflect the new standard. So you were paying the same amount for LESS coverage. I learned this when I bought the warranty on my '06 Focus and asked "why so cheap?" Basically you're paying for 1 year, 40k miles of extra powertrain coverage. If your car isn't highly optioned, the dealer probably makes out pretty well. If you care IS highly optioned, one NAV system replacement at 40k miles can easily cover the cost of the ESP.

FYI ... ESP also includes 10 days of car rental if your vehicle is hung up in the shop ... that starts immediately and not a feature of the standard 3/36 B2B.

I bought my ESP from Ford website ... PremiumCare 72/60K - $0 Dedutible .. $950 ..... 0 interest payments for 17 months. That is an incredible deal compared to the super over inflated prices the dealer offered me!

I think on our cars .. especially the Premiums .. the PremiumCare is a must ... it covers all the Electronics - NAV, SYNC, SHAKER, ETC .... none of the other ESP warranties cover the AUDIO/NAV systems.

Why wouldn't you get the 7 yr 100k warranty? Do the Mustangs not usually last that long?

I've been using this page for warranty tips. http://www.carbuyingtips.com/warranty.htm

I'm not sure how the Premium care ESP plan compares with Warranty Direct's SecureCare plan. Though Ford's is a bit cheaper.

Terms/Miles Will expire on... Or when odometer reaches... $0 $50 $100
7 Years / 100,000 Miles 4/16/2017 100,000 Miles $ 2,363 $ 2,113 $ 1,888
7 Years / 85,000 Miles 4/16/2017 85,000 Miles $ 2,265 $ 2,015 $ 1,790
7 Years / 75,000 Miles 4/16/2017 75,000 Miles $ 2,130 $ 1,905 $ 1,705
7 Years / 60,000 Miles 4/16/2017 60,000 Miles $ 1,918 $ 1,668 $ 1,493
6 Years / 100,000 Miles 4/16/2016 100,000 Miles $ 2,316 $ 2,066 $ 1,841
6 Years / 75,000 Miles 4/16/2016 75,000 Miles $ 2,089 $ 1,864 $ 1,664

Um, yeah, like half the price.

As for 7 years, you can ask for that. I just started with a baseline of one of the most popular warranties. Even in your list, with 100k miles being the limit the nominal difference is about $50.

Who is Warranty Direct? And what relationship do they have with Ford? Ford's PremiumCare ESP is crazy simple to use. And it's transferable. I'm not sure I'd every buy a 3rd party warranty.

Talk to the finance guys at the dealer before the car even comes in, that's what I did. I was just in the showroom and asked if he had a few minutes to price out the ESP. No pressure, no feeling like I had to make a decision now or never.

It seems that you can buy the extra warranty coverage just for extra years or for different combinations of years and mileage. To get 6 years and 60K coverage is justover half the price of 6yr/100K. It appears a lot of buyers store their cars at least part of the year so why pay for 100K coverage when you won't get close to that mileage in 6 years, that's a waste of hundreds of dollars.

One benefit to waiting would be if your car gets totaled during the factory warranty period. Then you'd be out every penny, unless it is refundable.

If I remember right, I have traded vehicles before my warranty has run out and it is pro rated.
I got a refund for the difference

It's refundable AND transferable. That's the reason for getting the 100k warranty. A buyer may be more inclined to buy your car if you include a warranty.

Agreed that some people don't need 100k miles of coverage. I drive between 5000 and 20000 miles per year so I'll go with the longest coverage I can get. Commutes change. Better to be covered than not 5 years down the road when things start breaking. Also consider how much hourly labor rates will increase over the next 5 years. I think my dealer is $90/hour now. In 5 years, my guess is they'll be $120.

I calculated over 100K in 6 years for me so I figure I might as well get the highest mileage for the 6 years since I will use every bit of the 100K more than likely.
