If I had the Camaro, or the Challenger, with their big, lopey, pushrod V8's, I'd probably want an exhaust system like this. A nice low grumble. But with the Mustang, and its smaller, high revving DOHC plant, I'd rather see something that focused more on showing off THOSE strong suits. Like these:

Kind of high aren't they? The flows I had on my 08 GT were only $250. That was a couple of years ago......

if you are looking for a more exotic sound, then those are good exhausts however those exhausts don't fit the persona of a muscle car. when i think of the mustang, i think of muscle cars and i want it to sound like that too.

+1

That is the most recognizable thing about a muscle car in my mind. I have spent hours online listening to exhaust videos trying to find the perfect one for me. I want the deep throaty muscle car sound without any popping or raspiness. I'm thinking Bassani or Mac exhaust at this point but Flowmasters sound good too.

Why? Just because YOU are stuck in the 60's, and think a "muscle car" should sound a certain way (generally like its mufflers are being held on with wire hangers), doesn't make it so. This is a thoroughly modern, high revving V8, and we should embrace it as such. Finally they move this car into the 21st century, and you want to push it back 40 years. I thought the 2010 updates finally made this car a more modern version of itself, while keeping just a touch of the retro theme for personality, but I see they haven't gone far enough.

BTW, how are the M3 or the S5 not muscle cars? Seem to fit the formula just fine. Take your smallest chassis, make a coupe with a long hood and short deck, and drop a V8 into it.

Those are amazing automobiles and I would absolutely love to own one but in no way are they muscle cars. I take them for what they are which is a high performance, luxury European sports car. I wouldn't want them to try and sound like an American V8 just as I don't want the Mustang to sound like them. It's nothing against that sound because it is an unique exotic sound that sounds awesome in its own right but it fits the car.

I think the new advancements in technology they are making with these cars is wonderful for Ford and brings them up to date to the 21st century as you said. However in my opinion Mustangs, Camaros, Challengers etc. always need to be tied to their true muscle car heritage and the sound and look is important as any. Just one man's opinion.
