This makes sense and sounds like a cheap alternative to all this changing talk.

There are three things that a lot of people do that are by far the worst things you can do. 1. On a new engine or vehicle changing the oil to soon. "oil put in at the factory has a break in additive in it to help the rings seat. changing the oil too soon removes this need additive. with NEW vehicles that have a synthetic blend you should not change the oil until 5000 miles are on it of regular driving not long idle times." 2. changing the OIL way to late like one guy said "don't change it ever just keep adding it, the oil will turn into sludge are rune the engine. also one the biggest things people over look is idling, say you change your oil at 5000 miles, the oil itself has more than double the amount of miles on it do to idling. remote start enabled vehicles are VERY bad for oil and the life of the engine in the wrong hands because people don't take into consideration how long the vehicle idols everyday. I say stick to the old school ways for non synthetic vehicles 3000 Miles MAX, for synthetic vehicles or partial blends, 5000 MAX. Do not change the weight of the oil. Also I have read about oil consumption, the main reason why a new vehicle will use oil once it has miles on it between oil changes is to the oil was changed to quickly removing the break in additive and the rings did not seat.

No. Track Pack and above use 5w-50.

I'm sticking with Ford recommendations noted in owners manual. Will change at 5000 or 12 months, then every 5k miles or 12 months unless light comes on sooner.

Are you sure it's not 6 months?
