The way you tell if it has 3.31 rear diff is as follows:
1) Is it new?
2) Is the dealer selling it as new?

If either of the above is "yes" and it's a 2011 convertible, then it has the 3.31 gears.

The convertible can be switched over to another rear gear, but there's some expense & a tune will be needed to re-calibrate the speedo.

My convertible feels fast as heck to me, and I still have stock tune and rear.

Try a Gt (non Vert) with the 3.73 gears. I think you'll change your opinion.

Yeah but the 4.6 is the same way. Both engines need some revs man!

Anybody know a way I can easily check my car to see if it has something different than 3.31?
You can tell what the car left the factory with by checking the axle code on the door tag.

An explanation of the codes can be found here:

Axle Ratio Codes
The axle ratios are:
• BB - 3.73 ratio, base vehicle with manual or automatic transmission
• CC - 2.73 ratio
• DD - 3.55 ratio with manual transmission
• GG - 3.31 ration with automatic transmission
• YY - 3.15 ratio with automatic transmission

Not Impressed? Thats BS on toast.
From the 1st time I turned the key I've been thrilled with mine. Now that I have the Steeda CAI and tune, It's a freakin' BEAST! Saving up for a blower now, Ow! SOMEBODY STOP ME!!!

Please with just a tune and 3:15 gears my auto is a beast. You must be used to driving 600+ HP cars.

I think a lot of peoples perception is that all xHP cars will feel the same.

SO not the case.

Feel and speed are not in the same.

While the engine was obviously much more refined and improved, it really didn't feel that much faster in a straight line then my lightly modded 2005 GT with 4.10's. The pull in 3rd gear felt the best to me and did feel faster then my car...but not 90hp better. 2nd gear felt disappointing to me as fell. Just didn't have the pull I thought it would. Couldn't really play with 1st since it was damp out and had no traction.

Has anyone else found that they haven't felt as fast as they thought it would? I was all ready to buy one but now I am not so sure I will be happy with it.

On another note, are the convertibles softer sprung then the regular GT's? Because the car felt very soft to me.

13.6-13.7 VS 12.6-12.9 one full second quicker unmodded. and 11's with a tune CAI.
its quicker. by a lot. whether you feel it or not. im unimpressed bt 2005-2010 3v's. i didnt but one of those because they are slugs.

the torque managment tables artificially LIMIT power using VE caculations. the power is artificially limited. tuners adjust/remove the torque limiter scalars and retune VCT/ignition timing.

Yeah, what HE said. ^^^ It's all about the torque vectoring.

I own a 2009 stock GT/CS with 3:55 gears. When I took out the 2011 GT with the Brembo package and 3:73 gears, I definitely felt the difference of horsepower in every gear.Quite impressive. Having said that, I prefer the unrefinement of my 2009. For a muscle car, I found the 2011 a bit too civilized in terms of the clutch feeling very light and the cabin too quiet. That's just my opinion. Just have to mod my CS to get that power of the 5.0and I'll be set.

This may not be the case of the OP, however, a lot of these kind of posts is for them to justify on why they shouldn't upgrade to the latest and greatest. I read these kind of posts on the BMW, Porshce and other websties. If you read on 6-9 mos. later you find the original poster of such thread ends up selling or trading in his ride for the newer one in which he/she didn't feel that is was faster, to only sing the praises of the newer steed.

Like I said this may not be the OP intention, but I do feel a lot of these posts are for the said above reason.

I must agree with you, Clutch is too soft and cabin is too quiet. All my other mustangs (4 of them) felt like a muscle car. The 2011 is a beast yet tamed. I'm hoping with a few mods here and there she will sound/be more agressive!

Gotta admit...................when I got 100 miles on it and punched it in first gear, I was disappointed. (3:73s, MT, Brembo )

I said as much and got the same response as the OP.

Now, 2,000 miles, Steeda CAI and tune, GT 500 axlebacks.

THIS is the car I thought I was buying in the first place.

I had an 05 with bama tune, jlt cai, 4.10's, slp loud mouths... My 2011 is FAR superior in every conceivable way. Is it refined? Sure is. Is that a problem? NOT A LITTLE BIT.

I'm looking forward to my svt axle backs from Shaun for a little more sound. I will likely also go with a tune and cai or maybe get crazy and get a Whipple in the next 6 months, but really this **** car is pretty **** nearly perfect.

You guys are nuts. 2nd gear is a monster. I can start from 2nd and it will pull the front up and put the car sideways if traction control is off. It will spin the tires even with it on. I do have 3.73s.
