Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
So as the title implies, I called in sick today. I was enjoying my day off playing some video games and watching tv, when I decided to do something to my car. I finally decided to plasti dip my stock 18" to match my performance white and black accent theme. When I finally finished, I was very pleased with the results. I know this thread isnt much without pics, so I post some asap.
Has anyone ever taken the day off to work on there car, if so, what did you do/accomplish?

Looks good. Be sure to post pics after you get the other stuff installed.
I hope to dip my stock wheels eventually, but it'll need a really good cleaning and lots of taping off. So it's been on the backburner. How hard were your wheels? Much prep work?

Material: plastic bags, a box cutter, 3 cans of plasti dip, terry cloth, rim cleaning supplies, spray trigger helps, and rubbing alcohol.
Cut the plastic bags down the middle and cover the calipers and rotors completely, clean the rims as best as possible, and dry them well. After, use the rubbing alcohol to wipe down the rims to remove any leftover resido. Then, with or without the spray trigger, start spraying on the first coats. I did 4 coats total but you can do 5 for good measure. Then use the box cutter to cut the outline of the ford oval and the gap between the rim and tire. After just peel away the plasti dip from the ford oval (if u choose to, of course) and the overspray on the tires. Another option you can do (which I tried but opted not to) is remove the lug nuts(carefully, so u dont peel or scratch any of the surrounding plasti dip) and peel away all the plasti dip, then you can have chrome lug nuts with black rims. Finally, just remove the plastic bags and clean up any overspray that may have gotten on the surrounding of ur car.
Looks good. I'm assuming based on your description that you did this with the wheels on. Good luck getting the wheels off any time in the near future without damaging the surface though... I tried to do my wheels but gave up after the third attempt resulted in the same ending. I took two rims off at a time and got 4-5 flawless coats on each one. When it came time to remount the rims, each time my thin-walled socket ended up grabbing the plastidip inside the lug holes somehwhere, and basically twisted and ripped off the plastidip around a lug spreading to a wheel spoke. I decided that it would be too hard to keep up with (especially if any other service requires someone else to remove a wheel) and just bought new rims... I do like the blacked out look though.

I hadnt thought about that, but now that u mentioned it, I did realize how in many ways u could accidentally chip or peel it. I guess I just enjoy it s long as possible until I get aftermarket rims or get these actually painted or powder coated.
