Feeling with automatic transmission with 5 Litre

Hi Fans,

I wonder how is the feeling with automatic transmission with 400ps. Does it make also lot of (´enough´) fun fun? Is manual much different/much more interesting with so much ps?
(I´m driving a Le Baron 3 Litre Automatic with ´only´ 150ps since years)

Get the stick, it's much more engaging. You'll still have fun with the auto, but the manual adds a whole other dimension

You know if the auto offered a manual shift feature which this model of auto does allow, it would be a whole different game. The 1st gear on this tranny is quite short (high numerical) and along with some gears would be a kick in the pants.

I'd rather have a manual transmission V6 than an automatic V8.

My sentiments exactly. It's not about posting numbers at a drag strip, it's just more fun to shift for myself.

Being that the 5 speed auto had manual shift ups from 1-2-3. (the whole configuration was (1-2-3-D-N-R-P") Does the 6 Speed now have 1-2-3-4? or is it still 1-2-3? Sometimes I use the 1-2-3 setup if I want to keep a high rev and and then push it into the sequence...then ultimately just back into Drive and if I want to keep the Rev in drive i'll just turn the overdrive off... Tho the 2011 doesn't have O/D.

Plus the computer won't allow a premature downshift that would over-rev the engine...

So the ability to keep high revs does work with the auto, you just have to know how to work it.
Also, it does change pretty timely if you red line it each shift. (the auto's even have the red "blink"...)

I rented an auto 2010 GT a while back and even though it was the first time I had driven an auto Mustang in 10 years, it was still pretty fun. It was kind of nice not having worry about a clutch in town, and on the highway you're not doing much shifting anyway. I will always buy manual trans Mustangs, but it's not a deal breaker for me.

Manuals are fun if you have frequent opportunity to use them. If you find yourself in traffic a lot, it becomes a pain in the butt.

Would be nice to have a best-of-both-worlds tiptronic in there, to switch between auto and clutchless-manual, but Ford hasn't caught on to that trend in the performance car industry. Maybe next model.

Thanks all of you for your input! Sorry that it´s a difficult question (maybe similar ´which color you like..´), the input helps me. Solution would be to try both, but i cant...:-( Here we have to change gears a lot our streets are short and curvy, much traffic. Yes a combination would bee cool!!

Maybe if I lived in a major metropolitan area and experienced daily traffic jams I'd feel the same way. So far, though, I've never said to myself "Gee, right now I wish I had an automatic."

To each his own. I love manuals even in heavy traffic. But if you like autos, go for it.

I test drove a '05 GT with a automatic and i thought it was a blast,i'm sure a 6speed auto 5.0L would be awesome to drive. Just go with your gut,if you want a auto, get one. Anyone that gives you **** probably has a "yeah but" about their car too.

When i went to go look at my Mach1, i didnt know it was a auto till I got there.. I was darn its a auto. But I loved the color of the car and fell in love with it, Now im glad I bought it, the manual trannys in the Machs are not that great or reliable.. The autos in the Mach1 especially the 04s are very strong.. Now I have a stall converter, and the car is a complete blast to drive...

I play a lot of sports and have been known to get hurt enough that pushing in a clutch would have been quite bothersome.
I don't have any road tracks within a couple hours, but do have a strip within 30 minutes. With 400+ horses under the hood, I know the auto will be fun to drive and my fiance can enjoy driving it too.

Exactly. Many people choose the auto because they have bad knees, other drivers, etc. My wife drives a manual too, but she hates driving the mustang. She's about 5'2" and can't get comfortable in the car. I like having control of what gear I'm in, so until ford introduces a manumatic, I'll stick with the stick in bullitt. But I think the autos in these cars are ****. My buddy has an '06 auto and it really gets with the program. Brian oh five has an auto just a few mods that runs in the 12's. Faster than I could shift, I'm sure.

When i was young, i always had manuals. Now i'm old with a bad back and bad left leg, i have to go with automatics. The new automatic don't have the performance lose of years ago. Pick the transmission you feel you'll be happiest with.

It's like if someone asks you:
"Oh what car do you drive?"
"Mustang"
"V6 or 8? Manual or Auto?"
"V8 with Bad knees, auto" (you have to justify WHY you got an auto
