Engine Options

Assuming the rumored 400hp 5.0 V8 is offered, which optional engine would you be more interested in as an alternative to a V8?

Ecoboost 4 cyl

or

Ecoboost V6

I guess it depends on the HP to MPG tradeoff.

Before giving this some though I think my knee-jerk reaction would have been to vote V6. But, after considering the likelihood that a GTDi V6 option is likely to be a more upmarket car than is the 5.0L GT, and that I am far more interested in a small GTDi engine which slots in below the V8-powered GT than I am in a SE version of a GTDi V6, I voted for the 4 cylinder.

That said, I'll predict that the EB V6 will easily win the most votes in this thread, but I think an EB I4 would easily be much more successful as a production option out here in the real world.

I would definitely prefer the 6. If the options are EB4 & DI 5.0, I'd have to take the 5.0 regardless of MPG.

The SVT notwithstanding, a 4 - any 4, no matter how good - just doesn't seem right in a Mustang. Perhaps I retain too much of the old Mustang II stigma. Better to put the EB4 in a smaller, lighter vehicle (AWD Euro Focus?) and compete in the pocket-rocket category, IMHO...

I'd like to have both, personally. The I4 as the lightweight entry car and the V6 as the "GT-Alternative" for the economy conscious.

I would like to see both actually!

1.Mustang Ecoboost 4 cylinder

2.Mustang GT Ecoboost V6

3.Mustang GTR Ecoboost 5.0 V8

4.Mustang GTR-Z Ecoboost 5.2L V8

Lets boost them all, and go for broke!! That Mustang GTR-Z 5.2L Twin Turbo sounds nasty!!

I'm also only interested in the 400HP 5.0L DOHC 4V, that will hopefully include DI.
