Engine compartment discoloration?

All,

I took delivery of my black 2011 Mustang GT lastnight. I'm pretty excited to finally have it. However, after looking around the engine compartment, particularly the shock towers, I noticed a very faint, brownish-copper "discoloration". After looking more closely at it, I'm starting to think that the areas did not receive adequate paint.

I thought I would pose the question to you all first to see if this is "normal" before I get a headache. I'm not sure what to think as the rest of the car seems to have excellent paint quality.

Thanks again.

The engine compartment doesn't get clear coated, so the finish should be dull. However, the color coverage should be uniform throughout.

I noticed the same thing on mine and I took it by the local Ford body shop and the manager there said that is normal. Apparently that area does not get as much paint.

Unfortunately, I have no pics due to lighting conditions yesterday and me being at work today. I'm going to the dealer after work to ask them about it, but also to look at a few black Mustangs they have on the lot.

I'll see if I can get some pics at or after the dealer.

Sorry about the quality guys, only had my iphone. This is the driverside strut tower.

The body shop at the dealership said this is normal. He showed me the red GT500 in the building, and it even had it. Additionally, he told me other Ford's had the issue as well, although I didn't see it with my own eyes.

I think I'm ok with it, knowing other cars have it, even the GT500. Still disappointed, though.

The dealer said I had the option of having it repaired, but they weren't sure how Ford would have responded. I'm really tempted to give it a shot though.

That's probably the last thing you want on a CarFax unless the car is actually wrecked and needs to be painted.

That's a good point. I talked to the body shop manager today. He's contacting an engineer who specializes in the painting process at Ford.

Are there any other members besides Mustang 4-6 and I that have this issue?

I have a Black 2010 with the same issue, but mine isn't as bad as that. Check your trunk, because almost my whole trunk is like that

Why would that be on a car fax if the dealership repainted it?

My Sterling doesn't have that paint issue at all, i checked and haven't noticed anything discoloration or missing paint whether it be the shock towers or trunk.

I'm ***-suming it would since anything mechanical, warranty or not, that you take the car to the dealer tends to show up nowadays.
