Easy Skip-Shift elimination...

I new there had to be a mechainical way to eliminate the skip-shift feature.

This is from a Ford tech, says it will not throw a code or trip any light.

Simply unplug the solenoid and tape it up the plug to prevent damage.

See this PDF for locating the solenoid:

http://iihs.net/fsm/?dir=941&viewfil...20Solenoid.pdf

Once you jack the car up it shouldn't take more than a minute or two to do it.

Huh. That seems almost too easy. Might try it if I can figure out how to get under there.

Just have to jack it up and crawl under and stick your hand up in there to it.

Too bad it's not on a separate fuse.

Skip-shift eliminator for the 5.0L ... just a pair of plugs that you put in series with the factory plug that simply interups all the wires.

Someone could probably make some money here, just need to keep it a secret that simply unplugging it does the same thing !!

Interesting! The GM version could be disabled the same way but the skip shift light would still go on under the normal skip shift conditions.

Thank you, kind sir. That information is exactly what I need.

put a piece of shrink tube on the head and melt over the end of the plug.

A testimonial or 2 on whether this really works (by someone that actually owns a 2011 GT, no offense to the O.P.) would sure be nice.

This fix was originally posted on allfordmustangs by a Ford tech who owns a 2011.

As easy as it is to do and undo, what's the harm in trying it?

I went for a test drive in an ’11 GT today and drove a stick for the first time in 15 years. I started out by making a few laps in an empty parking lot. Needless to say, I started off very slowly. I never felt the skip-shift thing kick in. Could I have just missed it?

Here is the thread where the tech starts talking about unplugging the skip-shift solenoid as told to him by a Ford tech rep. Look starting at post #145...

There are a few factors in when it kicks in so it depends on how you were driving it, shift RPM, speed, throttle angle, etcetera.

Jacked up the car this morning and unplugged it. The connection is way up on the tranny so it is a bit difficult to see. Just slide yourself down to the tailshaft and it is easier to get too.

Took it for a spin around the block, no skip shift and no MIL. I will post back after a couple of days of commuting and let you guys know if anything changes.

Boy, there are a LOT of pissed-off Mustang owners over this transmission. Ford is not doing Chinese manufacturing's image any favors with this POS tranny. Frankly I don't know how they thought this would be a good idea. They were doing so well with not making idiotic decisions, too...

The whole skip shift thing was to make the EPA happy, not really anything to do with it being made in China. Altho I'd still prefer one made in the states.

Since this is a Getrag-designed transmission for Ford, Ford likely had only limited say in where it was manufactured. I suppose there could have been "we ain't taking it if it is manufactured there" conversations, but who really knows.

I agree - it gives a certain perception, given the visibility of the issues.
