E-brake failure

So I pull the boss out of the garage and park it running ( to warm up) and pull my e-brake. I get out to close my garage door and lock it from the inside.* As I walk out the door I hear a loud POP! I watch the boss roll into a tree.* The e-brake was pulled fully up and lever had fallen completely down. No cable broken.

I searched if there are anybody else with this problems on ANY other 2011 -14 mustangs, and found nothing.* Has anybody had the same.w problem here or know of anybody the I could talk to about this matter?* I'm very upset and very much want to have this problem looked into.

thank you.

That is horrible!... I am so sorry! I have never had a problem with the emergency brake on my 14... I use it all the time but having said that I have never really tested it either. You have given me something I intended to test on mine ASAP! So sorry again! How much damage? Pictures?

Was this posted over on boss mustangs online too? I may have become a bit paranoid after reading this, was very careful to engage 1st gear as well as e take when I parked today.

You might want to let Ford know about this. We have a rep that's helps out here in the forum, forgot her name. This could very well be a TSB or recall issue. Include as many pictures of the problem as you can.

I've had this happen once before, although mine's an '05.

The e-brake (or handbrake) as we call 'em here, was always pretty poor on mine, mainly due to stretched cables. Water gets into the "bellows" behind the brake and rot them out. I used to have to pull the brake as hard as possible.........one day it "popped" as let go. Fortunately my car was parked in gear at the time.

I've new cables now, and not had any problems.

There was a recall on my 1998 Mustang for this and the failure would happen exactly as you explained ... tension on cables would be released without moving the lever. I had swapped out the std. lever assy. for a '94 Leather Wrapped Cobra one so I never experienced the problem.

When I swapped the factory one back in before selling it, I gave the recall to the new owner and he brought it in and had the lever replaced. Don't remember if he experience the problem before bringing it in or not.

However I have not heard of any newer Mustangs with this problem / recall so you definitely want to bring your car in.

Ouch! This sounds like a painful way to join the forum, onebad58. My name is Deysha with Ford Service. I recommend you contact our Customer Relationship Center at 1-800-392-3673, and speak to them about this.

Thanks for sharing. Always good to be aware such things can happen.

I had a Camaro once that i parked on an incline and the same thing happened. Someone came inside and asked who owns the blue Camaro parked out in the middle of the street?? My heart sank....thankfully no accident.

Same exact thing happened with me and my GTO. It did, however, roll into a snowbank.
