Dynamat (or similar) and drone reduction?

Has anybody had any luck eliminating or reducing drone by using a product like Dynamat or something like it?

I have dynomat all in my trunk area, I cant say whether it reduced it because i put my boomtubes on after that....Dynomat is designed to enhance low frequencies...so it may make it resonate more inside the car, especially with your windows closed...

Dynamat is a vibration dampener. Not a sound deadener. It is designed to prevent rattles and vibration. If you want to block out sound, you need closed cell foam, on top of Dynamat. Sounddeadenershowdown.com

Something that work significantly for me was wrapping small sections of the exhaust with a layer of lead flashing (yes i know its quite heavy) but you really don't need much for it to be effective. It weighs the exhaust down a little and prevents it from vibrating and causing the drone.

Sooo no I haven't tried dynamat

Very true, it damps (not dampens - i.e. get wet) vibrations typically seen in sheet metal panels. It is most effective at high frequency damping - buzz or rattles. If you want to block low frequency transmission you need something thicker and more substantial.

The "drone" that most people experience is when the low frequencies from the exhaust line up with a resonant frequency of the cabin of the vehicle. One easy way to prevent that is to alter something in either of the exhaust tubes to shift that frequency band. Older Fox & SN95 cars came from the factory with different length mufflers to eliminate drone. The newer S197's typically don't see much drone due to the fact the muffler is so close to the rear exit in the car. But some do seem worse than others.
