Drove with Parking Brake on...

What a dork I am. I filled my tank and forgot to get the receipt. Drove back to the pump, had to get out, so I put her in neutral and set the hand brake, got the receipt and drove 100 yards or so to the stop light.

Once at the light, I noticed the red "Brake" symbol on my instrument panel, looked down, and saw the handbrake was up. It wasn't fully engaged, but I could smell a little burned smell all at once. I released it and drove home. No issues.

I'm just wondering if I've done any damage. Is the handbrake separate from the regular braking system?

Any experts out there that can set my mind at ease?

Thanks!

It engages the rear pads.

You aren't the first to do this and won't be the last.

Parking brake is built into the rear calipers, so it was dragging the pads as you drove.

Doubt it did any lasting damage, no more than the burnouts you do at the drag strip while holding the brake pedal.

Don't sweat it.

Drove 6 miles home one night in my 2005 V6 because the cable froze in the winter...no damage to the rotors or pads, just had to get new cable boots that kept water out on a TSB.

Yes, you should be fine....

Mine makes a loud chime when the parking brake is on and the car moves.
Your car doesn't make the noise?

I drove home a few miles from work in my old v6 with the ebrake on and the radio bumping. I thought it felt sluggish, lol.

My 16 year old daughter drove my Jeep about 9 miles home from her friends house with parking break on. Our neighborhood smelled like qualifying for NHRA nationals was underway....no damage was done though. I'm sure your fine.

I agree with the "don't sweat it" comments. 100 yards is nothing compared to what a lot of people do. If your pedal isn't pulsing (indicative of a warped rotor), you're home free.

Just keep an eye on your pads and don't do it again.

Hey fellas, thanks for all the info and the reassurance that I didn't do any damage. And no, I didn't hear any chiming or dinging going off. Glad to know that I didn't hurt anything. Thanks for all the comments.

Not guilty! You are not a dork for doing what so many of us, me included have done. You wore a few miles off the pads but did no damage.
