As far as I understand it, swappable crate engines like the TECHCO 5.0L fit the 2005-2010 without any issues. It looks like Ford is dumping their 5.0L in a 2011 model year that is nothing more than a 2010 Mustang. In other words, if the 5.0L fits the 2011, then it fits the 2010, then it must fit the 2005-2009.

I'm asking this because I want my car to remain N/A, but I want this extra power without having to ride in the new bodystyle which is still looking "funny" to my eyes.

So would it be possible to plug this 5.0L in a 2005-2009 or should I just sell my soul to the devil and buy a Camaro (just kidding!). Thanks for the input.

There will be much more to it than just bolting in the new engine. And if you are thinking of just buying a new camaro, why not just buy the new mustang (since you want that engine and all)?

You're probably going to put yourself into a world of hurt with respect to the electronics. Unless you or someone close you is an electrician or has an electrical engineering degree, the hassle won't be worth it. Everything is integrated into the computer now.

I'll NEVER buy a Camaro. Too heavy in the twisties. Little heritage compared to the Mustang. No question. I was just curious as to the compatibility of the 5.0L with the 2005-2009 cause the new design is not so nice + that will be easier to ship a new engine over to Europe rather than a whole new car.

Like PTRocks said, you'd have to get your hands on the computer from an '11 or have a very good electrician as a friend.

It's good to hear that you won't buy a camaro lol but you can't deny that they are good cars. Of course, Ford created a better one, but a Camaro is ok. haha

Perhaps FRPP will come up with a "control pack" like they have to drop an 05-09 4.6L 3v engine into anything.

This will be a total crap shoot, heavily weighted against you at that.

The electronics system of the vehicle has both high speed and low speed communications buses (Can-bus). Wires aren't wires any more. All the major components of the car 'talk' to each other to pass information now. If they aren't speaking the same language, then nothing or possibly bad things will happen. Furthermore the instrument cluster acts as a bridge or translator between the buses.

I think you can see where this could lead you...

The Techco 5L engine is simply an enlarged 4.6L engine. The 5.0 that is going into the 2011 Mustang GT is a totally new design that will not have any compatible parts with any 4.6-based engine.

I know my dad is looking pondering putting the new 5.0 in an old Fox, but he is a computer programmer, mechanic extraordinaire, and practically built his entire house including the wiring. I wouldn't trust this kind of a swap to just anybody, it would take some work and a lot of knowledge in several fields. It will fit, and it is doable though.

In your case the FRPP controllers would definitely be useful.

Ford sells the GT500 complete engine assembly including all accessories and clutch. I am sure they will do the same with the 5.0.

yea well just like if you were to swap the gt500 motor in a gt, you would need a trans to bolt up, a custom driveshaft for your rear end. the same will apply to the new 5.0, you will have to have the right trans to bolt up, a custom driveshaft to bolt to your rear end or get a rear from a 2011. Thats not to mention electrical components and wiring. opening up a can of worms if you ask me.

Depends on the price of the motor. The GT motor is mass produced, I'd guess it will be $7k. Total probably a $15k project if you have skills. It would be cool to put it in a 91 LX or something. Waste of money to put into an 05-10. Just buy an 11 in that case.

This will be done in a couple of years for just under $3,500 for engine, trans swap. Used engine with 20,000 miles and the FRPP control pack. Not a waste of money to swap into a 05-09. Some want the nice engine with the better looking body. The big question is wether or not the bell housing bolt parterns are the same as the earlier 4.6L. Any one know yet?
