Distance challenge on 1 tank
So Last time I ran out of gas and know exactly how many miles I can ge before engine dies. I wasn't really driving concervetevely and was going 80-85mph mostly.
I think I got about 360 miles on a tank, but don't recall
Today I have 410 miles to go, I'll try to go about 70mph and see how close to 400 I can get. Once I have 0 miles to E then I know I can go 15 more miles and should start looking for a gas station
Any guesses on how far the 5.0 can go?
With a gt500 spoiler and airaid intake just added. And3.73 gears, so that's slightly a bad thing if I'm trying to save gas lol

By extreme coasting tactics one way heading into work on a 60+ mile commute I was able to get over 28 mpg out of the 5.0. I did not try the return trip to average out the test, the hills and such would surely even out the MPG to a lot closer to the advertised 26 mph highway figure. But if you granny shift the car and coast a lot you can do quite well.

Road trip down to VA from South Jersey. I forget exactly how much, but it was alittle over 500 miles on a single tank. Avg. was almost 35 mpg with the AC running and going around 74 mph. Low fuel light came on before we found a station.

I've driven mine about 14,000 miles so far and kept track of mileage religiously, with the best mileage on any tank being just under 28 (all highway, 70-80 MPH speed, no A/C). So, based on that, I wouldn't push a tank much past 375 miles, based on 28 MPG x 14 gallon tank = 392 miles.
Though I remain perplexed why the owner's manual says our cars have a 16 gallon tank but mine always tells me I'm out at right around 14. Is the warning light in our cars so conservative that it's programmed to always have 2 gallons of gas in reserve?

I've driven mine down to about 15-miles to Empty, and I put 15.1 gallons of fuel back in.

I've never been able to get what a tank is listed as actually into a tank.. if it's a 5 gallon can, it never holds 5 gallons.. same was true with my truck and any other vehicle I've had. Guess it's just me.

The computer estimates your remaing distance to 2 gallons of fuel left based on your average mpg. 50 miles left does not mean you will go 50 miles if you're on the throttle a lot.
In general, if you are driving at the exact same fuel usage as your average, then "Empty" will leave you with 2 gallons of fuel in the tank. I have personally driven mine 25 miles beyond "Empty" on one occassion, and only put 15 gallons back in it to fill it.
The computer is nothing more than an educated guess. It should not be considered accurate. When it says it's at empty you should look for a gas station, and that's all that really matters.
