Dealer mark ups...
Who is going to pay it and admit it?
We all know how these things go from previous history. I will pay 500 over invoice and that is it. I will do with out before I get robbed in broad daylight.
Just wondering who the suckers are in here.

I work at a very large volume NW Ford Dealer we only charge $99 over the factory invoice total to special order any new 2010 vehicle (including the hard-to-find rigs like Taurus SHO, SVT Rapter, etc.), and the customer gets to keep the rebates (so they end up paying well below the factory invoice total after rebates). We haven't set pricing on the 2011 Mustangs yet as ordering hasn't begun, but I suspect we'll probably be around $500 over the factory invoice total.
Back in late 2004 when demand for the all-new 2005 Mustang was crazy, we were at $1,000 over the factory invoice total (which was about $1,000 to $1,500 below MSRP, depending on options). Most dealers were asking for ADM's, but that doesn't mean they got ADM's.
IMO, ADM's are a thing of the past. Sure, some dealers may "ask" for them, but few will actually get them. If you see an ADM on an '11 Mustang, know that you can easily negotiate that down to a fair price between the factory invoice total and MSRP.
And those who are eligible for A/D/X/Z plan? I bet most every dealer will honor those plans on an '11. It's not like a Mustang V6 or GT is a limited production vehicle.

No way.
I overpaid for my '04 GT(young, dumb and military at the time) and I've regretted it ever since. I love the car, but I can't get over the feeling like a sucker part of the deal. I really would like to get into an '11 GT, but without a repeat ripoff experience. Unfortunatly I might end up waiting until the end of 2010 or whenever I find a dealer that is actually willing to play ball to bite on one.

There will always been dealers who will ask for ADM. I'm sure some will get it since the Camaro is a high volume car and was moving at MSRP or higher for quite some time. Those who order the cars probably will get the best deals leaving those on the lots to impulse buying suckers. If I could get my GT500 for $1k over invoice any dealer not to take $500 over for a GT would be stupid.

Sorry but I have no sympathy for anyone willing to pay an A$$hole dealer markup in the current economy! Also 2010 was the worst year for Mustang sales since the rebirth of the car in 05 with a brand new bodystyle. I have read the whining from the GT500 owners for 3 years now. You know the 2010 GT500 that is going for invoice right now. There is a sucker born every minute, but with absolutely no limit on the amount of Gt's they can produce anyone willing to pay an ADM is a fool to put it in kinder terms. News flash even with the 5.0 2011 is not going to set any records for mustang sales. If the dealer doesn't like what you offer find another that will.

Dealers will get away selling with mark ups on limited products for a limited time not on mass production. I would expect the GT to command MSRP for a few months.
Those who wait a couple of months after dealers start taking delivery on the GTs will get the better deals.

Thanks for the info. Do you know what the invoice price on a 2010 GT premium? That way, I kind of know what the invoice price might be on the 2011 GT Premium....
Thanks in advance!

Never. I can wait a couple months on an investment I'd be dealing with for years afterward. Doesn't make much sense to give an arm and a leg for something you could get cheaper when the early demand diminishes.

When I was still in school a few months ago, my buddy and I were at an exhaust shop in the area getting some work done on his Charger R/T. A brand new Camaro pulls up, bright red with the GM body kit on it. The guy who got out...well let's just say he didn't look like he could afford it. It turns out it was a V6 and the first new Camaro in the city. He said he paid $41k for it, with the GM bodykit. It was an RS model, with an auto. V6, cloth seats, only options were the HIDs and bigger wheels. I couldn't believe how stupid people can be. He wanted to have the mufflers swapped out. Those cars (even the SS) are so quiet, and the V6 stock sounded like a vacuum. I hope the 2011 Mustang V6 sounds better!
But my point is, even when the economy was tanking there were idiots willing to pay ADMs (on vehicles from a bankrupt company even!). There will always be suckers. I'm not one of them.

Anything more than 1%-2% over invoice is lazy on the buyers part... I'll admit i paid MSRP on a Saturn Ion back in '03, but that was the deal on all Saturns then... before they offered rebates and such.
I paid 2% over invoice on my '05 GT preium w/ 5spd man., spoiler, mycolor, anti-theft in Nov '04 (ordered in July '04) -other dealers wanted $2k-$5k over MSRP.
Had a deal negotiated on a 2010 GT500 for invoice back in March... still kicking myself for not taking delivery...
Right now I'm working on 1% over invoice on a '11 GT.

BTW... I had to email 30+ dealers for 2% over invoice back in 2004, most rejected, some said no to early allocation but possible after Feb '05. I finally just walked into a small Ford dealer that mainly sold Explorers and said I will make a $500 deposit on a 2% over invoice deal on a '05 GT. The salesman agreed. My GT was their 3rd Mustang order (2nd GT allocation); they made changes to their stock order to my specifications. (This was a week or two after the '05 order banks opened)

I get Z-Plan (same as A-Plan) pricing thanks to the 36 years my Dad put in at FMC. I won't be paying any dealer markups. If my regular dealer won't play nice, I'll just get the car somewhere else.
Nobody should have to pay ADM on a Mustang GT. If your local dealer tries it, just order / purchase online. These are high volume vehicles, folks. Don't let your dealer tell you different.
