I'd safely say that we all agree to leave the "Boss 302" name to the true Boss. Many of us do not have the funds to shell out for a true Boss, so that's why it's asked what could be done to pay tribute to a Boss by making what we own a Boss "child".

I see no problems with the "C" stripes, hood bulge stripe, or older hockey stick stripes on a non Boss Mustang. I see no problem with the Boss intake kit. I see no problem with the installation of the front chin spoiler. It would IMO, be a incorrect to install any words on the body indicating "Boss 302". That would be a form of true cloning. Again, just an opinion.

If I had the funds to buy a Boss, I'd certainly have one. Maybe someday.

The thing that makes the Boss A Boss is the high revving N/A V8 and a way better suspension then stock.

If you want to create a Boss I would say go for it, but I wouldn't put the word Boss on it. C stripes or the hockey stick design are cool looking and look nice.

In no way am I passing mine off as a Boss, but will improve on what I have as a tribute to the true Boss.

I added the Boss intake, LS wheels and front splitter to go with the cs/Boss Front fascia and rear diffuser. Brembo brakes and the side exhaust are next...
Bucko, gobraphil- post pix of your mustangs if possible, thx.

Ya know - I had a discussion with some guys over on the Team Shelby forum about "fake" Shelby's, and with few exceptions, they didn't seem to mind as long as a) the execution of the copy was well implemented, and b) the owner 'fessed up about the car's true nature when asked.

In this forum, it looks like the people that have the biggest problem with "fake" special editions don't even HAVE those special editions, and are simply being unreasonable asshats.

IMHO, if someone wants to make their car look like a boss, and even badge a car as a boss, more power to 'em.

So, if anyone wants to make a tribute/replica car, I say go for it. And since you'll be unintentionally annoying the haters, I say give 'em the full monte, and badge the hell outa your car. After all, it's kind fun to watch people spit and sputter and turn all red and rant about how you're defiling the holy name of BOSS or SHELBY, and then have to back off when you smile and admit the car isn't what the badges say, and walk away with a trophy at the car show.

I think you should just get the Boss thing out of your head. Maybe borrow a couple styling cues but there are a lot more things you can do to it that will make it look better than a Boss. If you like the stripes or the splitter then go ahead but there is whole aftermarket world of things you can do instead. You can make it your own design which is the cool thing about owning a stang.

There's nothing wrong with making your car follow the design of the Boss IMO.

Personally I wouldn't put "BOSS 302" on it no matter how far you took the mods as its dishonest to me. But if you want to make a visual clone and even as much of hardware clone of a Boss in convertible form, go for it, its your car.

Search through the Black 2010-2013 section. Someone has already done this to his 2012 GT/CS and it came out really nice IMO. If you get the Boss wheels, Brembos, lower it, Boss rear fascia/front grille and splitter, I'd do the hockey stick stripes with no logos, pony tribar rear medallion, and a vert light bar. It would be a nice ride!

How about if you want a BOSS, go buy one. If you want a convertible, then go buy one.

Strong logic of BOSS convertible. Please, lets never talk about a BOSS convertible again.

Don't see the tie here. One is illegal, the other is not, and shows a bit of creativity. Taking styling queues from one model and adding to their own is complimenting the original. As it's been stated, as long as it's not being pushed as a clone, I see no harm or foul.

Personally id like to see a vert boss tribute. And heck if you got all the hardware i wouldnt see a problem with adding badges. I mean if uou have the Boss 302ci motor under the hood, why not have a sticker that says so? I say go for it, itll be bery unique thats for sure

How is it copying when it's never been done before? Besides, we don't always have the means to get that 'special' car. I know my '06 GT was a bit of a disappointment because I wanted the Shelby. But I made it my own, with a touch of Shelby in it. I never claimed it was a Shelby and didn't care what others thought about it. There wasn't another '06 GT that looked, sounded and drove like mine did.

Since I was lucky enough to be able to get a Boss, I find nothing wrong with the idea of a Boss convertible. It's a conversation piece, which is really deep down all we want our cars to be anyways. Enjoy the car for it's ridiculous amounts of customization available and make yourself happy. That's what's important, not what the peanut gallery (including myself) has to say about it.

I'm amused by the people who want to badge their car as something it's not. I'm also amused by people who have a hard on for pissing off others for their personal opinions. The Boss is built by Ford. If Ford didn't build the car as a Boss, it's not a Boss. Period. There is absolutely no difference between badging a CS as a Boss and badging a 1973 Ford LTD with the C-stripes and Boss tags. Neither one is a Boss, regardless how much more similar one may be to the Boss itself than the other. Why the need to badge a car as something it's not? It's deceptive. Is your car not good enough for you as it is to be proud of it without lying about it? Then perhaps you should have bought what you want your car to be. Yes, you can put any kind of decals/badges on the car you want to, but you're inviting--and will deserve--any derision you receive from anyone who happens to voice their dislike of your imitation. Don't expect others to be impressed.

Make the car your own, hell make it better than the Boss if you want to. Just don't expect everyone to give you a thumb's up when you try to pass a convertible off as a Boss.
