Coyote/Road Runner question regarding displacement

It's been stated that the new Coyote/Road Runner engine will be a 5.0, but has it been stated anywhere that it will in fact be 302 cubic inches? I'm not saying it hasn't been stated anywhere, but I haven't seen it if it has been. I'm just wondering if people are just assuming that because it's Ford, and because it's going to be a 5.0, that it'll be 302 cubic inches again. I remember in the late 80's/early 90's the Camaro and Firebird had a 5.0 V8, but their displacement was actually 305 cubic inches.

If the new engines are not infact a 302, I wonder if the new Boss will be a "Boss 5.0" or just a "Boss" without any reference to displacement.

I have not seen anything from ford regarding displacement yet, and its only rumors at this point. We will just have to wait to find out what the number will actually be.

(5.0L is 305.XX CI and 302 CI is only 4.9XX L)

It wouldn't be the 1st time Ford dimentionally misnamed their engine! If you do the math on the old 427 FE motor, you will likely find out it comes out closer to 425CID. (At least by the figures I have.)

Every other manufacturer does it as well. AMG/Mercedes, BMW, etc.

I don't think Ford should slap a numerical designation to the Boss. Boss 302 would make sense, but if it is rated at 429hp, Boss 429 would be okay too. Even though the old Boss 429 designated the CI.

Just as the GT500 was released with 500hp, the 500 didn't originally equate to a displacement or hp rating. I'd rather it just be The Boss.

Another possibility is that it can come with a stroker kit. The same kit thats installed in the Saleen 302 Extreme's and the PJ's. 3.8" crank, 5.850" rods, 3.552 or 3.554 size pistons. Ofcourse those stroker kits are forged. But if the rumor is true then will it or wouldn't work with the DOHC heads its supposed to get.

the modular(4.6,5.4) parts will not work for the new engine. All new design.

If the Road Runner/Coyote/Boss/EcoBoost/Hurricane/Whatever 5.0L V8 ever shows up in any Ford/Merc/Linc, it has bore spacing that is greater than the bore spacing of the current 4.6/5.4/6.8 modulars, so the heads will not fit the 4.6 & 5.4 and certainly won't fit the ten-cylinder 6.8.

Close, technically the 427 should have been a 426, even better the 'bigger' 428 should have been a 425!

It's an old wives tell on the reason for the Mustang having the "5.0". Back in the day Ford had two 4.9 motors. The other was the 300 cubic inch straight six that was in the F150. Being that the v8 was two cylinders up, it's number was rounded up to 5.0. Sounds cool to me.
