I have a base model 14 GT with the base 18" wheels. I found a set of new take off 19" 14 GT wheels with tires for sale on CL.

If I were to swap out to a 19" wheel, would I have to get my speedometer recalibrated and if the take off wheels come with the TPMS sensors, would I have to do anything special for them to work with my car or do they just automatically recognize them? Thanks.

if the the overal diameter of your wheel and tire combo are close to your current setup then your speedo should be ok.

I'm not sure about the TPMS question though.

 

It does depend on the over all diameter of the tires. Use one of the many calculators available on the web to figure out the difference. You will need the tool to have the car recognize the new TMPS sensors. Follow the procedure included with the tool, it's easy and quick.

 

Thanks guys. My stock tires are 235/50/18 and the tires on the take off rims are 245/45/19. I did use a tire calculator and the overall difference was 1.6% but since I'm not an expert on tires or sizes, I really don't know what that figure means in relation to whether or not I have to have the speedometer recalibrated or whether or not other aspects of the car's computer would need to be changed.

For the TPMS I don't have to sync the winter wheels when I put them on since they have Ford sensors in them but I have read some that do have to.

I just used the calculator at 1010Tires.com. You will be going 1 mph faster than your speedo is telling you. No worry at all.

Call around at local tire shops. Some will sync the TPMS to your car for free. Even if you don't buy the wheels or tires from them. It's easy for them to do and they know when you need new tires you may come back.

When I was looking at used wheels online I called around to see how much it would cost to get them synced and was surprised to hear it was free.

I ended up getting new wheels and tires from American Muscle with the TPMS installed and the sync tool for them. It's very easy to do yourself.

 

How can I tell if the wheels have the TPMS sensors installed? The guy I talked to said he thinks they are still on the wheels because the tires have not been off of the wheels but is not sure. I tried looking at my current wheels valve stems and could not tell anything. I was told that our cars have the TPMS sensors attached to the valve stems.

I won't buy the wheels and tires for the asking price if the TPMS sensors are not included.

The government made it mandatory for all cars 2007 and newer to have TPMS installed by the factory.

If you end up needing TPMS sensors, take a look at the Ford Racing kit: M-1180-A. Comes with 4 TPMS sensors, 4 valve stems and the calibration tool. I've used two sets of these so far on my '14 GT, without any issues. They can be picked up cheap on eBay:

Well, I guess I won't be getting the new wheels. They don't have the TPMS in them and I'm not paying $900 for the set without them and he won't take less. He wanted $1,000 for them initially. He is also 2 hrs away one way so there is the gas factor as well. There were a set just like these earlier in the year here locally for $900 that had the sensors in them that I didn't pull the trigger on and now I regret it. I guess I will just keep looking. Thanks for this link. Do you think $900 without TPMS sensors are a good deal for this design wheel? This is about the only other Mustang wheel that I like and they don't seem to come up for sale that often and I don't even see them on many Mustangs at all. Here is the link to the CL add.

70monte the only thing I would add to this thread is a recommendation to check the price of 19 inch tires vs 18 inch tires in your area. Around here 19 inch tires are less popular and as a result they cost more to replace than a set of 18 inch tires do. Just food for thought. Good luck with it.

 

Nice looking wheels. I’ve never seen those wheels in person, which makes me think they are fairly uncommon. As far as the wheels/tires being worth $900, it just depends. Are you good with the Pirelli tires? Say you damage one of those wheels beyond repair, what would a replacement wheel cost? I’m guessing they are OEM only, perhaps that is a deciding factor? However, if you’re truly passionate about wanting them – then go for it. Plenty of Mustang owners (including myself) have paid more for their wheels & tires.

 

I think they are one of the more rare OEM 19" optional wheel for the 13 and 14 Mustang GT. I have seen them in person a few times and really like them. I don't like the Pirelli tires so that is one negative about these wheels. I have the stock Pirelli AS tires on my car now and hate them because they are so loud with only 10,600 miles on them and watching them rotate up on jackstands, they appear to be out of round.

Replacement wheel cost for this rim on Ebay is between $200-300 from what I've seen. I've looked at a lot of aftermarket wheels and I'm just not a fan of most of the designs I see.

I also would have to get these wheels partially broken down to install the sensors and then have to get them remounted which will cost additional money over buying them and the sensors. I guess I will just wait and see if they eventually lower the price if they can't sell them.

3point7, I have compared prices of the 18 and 19" tires on tirerack and there is some difference so I know tire replacements will be more expensive in the future. I don't mind having 18" rims but for some reason all of the sudden, I find my factory base model 18" rims very plain in the looks department and want something else. Thanks for the input.
