Confirmation of the 5.0 with 400 HP for the 2010?

With all the threads already out ther I may have missed one posting this, however there is a small blurb on leftlane news about the testing of the new 5.0 ...

http://www.leftlanenews.com/ford-beg...ang-spied.html

most is what has been reported, however what caught my eye was the small bit about it not only having 400 HP but still getting better mileage than the present 4.6

Mules are also using the new wheels
I'll call them "SplitBlades"

Yes it was stated a while back that the 5.0 is more fuel efficient even with the more HP

Must have missed the better fuel mileage due to all the back and forth about whether the 2010 will have a 5.0 or not and whether it will have 400 HP or not and on and on.
I just thought this may (since it is only supported here by *sources*) support the belief that the new one will be on par with the new camaro and challenger even in the base mustang gt trim

If you are referring to the pics, they are supposed to be just mules so its not likely to be showing any body changes, though one thing I did notice that makes me wonder about the pics ... notice that for some reason the rear badge (fake filler badge) is covered with tape?
werent they doing that with the bullitt?
perhaps its an indicator that this is more than just a 2010 mule testing the new engine?
It just seems strange to do that to a mule.

It's a little odd that the 5.0 is being testing with the current bodystyle. Especially as the new body has been on the mules for months now.

So this one is old body/new engine/new interior/new wheels.

Also note this has the antenna on the rear.

Not too strange to be testing the 5.0 with the current body shell. While the '10 will have fresh sheet metal, the underlying architecture sounds like it will be essentially a carryover, if updated a touch, of the current platform. So it would be logistically easier to test with the current shell and avoid all the hassles of camouflaging and all that.

Being on the 05-09 body style allows them to test in the open more or less without attracting too much attention.

Seeing as the outside changes are just cosmetic anyhow... wouldn't matter what panels are on it.

True, but I'd have thought they'd want to test the cooling properties of the new engine with the new front bodywork/grille.

One thing, I do hope LLN is right and the 5.0 will debut with the 2010 rather that the 2011.

Can't remember. There were two 5.0L engines being tested. One was codenamed Coyote. One was based on the 4.6 and the other the 5.4.

Edit: Coyote was the 5.4L based engine. The other was codenamed Bobcat and was based on the 4.6L.

It would be cooler if they "tested" the 5.0 mules against a few of the new Challengers during their evaluation drives on the streets... HEMeh?! Whut HEMeh?!

F*** im just getting close to finishing mods on my car, and now this thing is going to be mocking me in 2010. I am happy its coming out, but at the same time dissapointed that my car that I put so much into will look dated and have a smaller slower engine. Leaving me no choice but to sell and buy that **** thing. I thought I would keep this thing forever, but this new car is already tempting me.

Where have you been the last 30 years?

Not since 1974 have cars gotten worse or slower with a new model year.

Oh and just so you know if you own a computer, even if you bought it yesterday, its is already out of date.

Just remember how wrong all the mags were about the 05's.

The 5.0 isn't coming until 2011.

Thanks for the enlightenment "BATS", but its not like I was wanting or expecting the 2010 to be slower or uglier than our current cars. if you read the post I was just simply voicing my frustration in regards to putting all this money into my current car to get it the way i wanted it (still not done) just for another car to pop up and make me want it. Im glad they are coming out with a bigger faster mustang, just dont know how i will explain buying that to my gf lol

Totally agree. Fourcam has already clarified this yet once again over at svt performance. Plus, the 2011 will be PFI and no word yet on how long it will take Ford to get around to DI for the 5.0. Magazines, bloggers and the like are not a good source of info on the stang imo because they have screwed up so many times I have lost count. Fourcam, DBK, and Blue II have all been dead on in the past. By the way, the numbers are 400/360 according to all of them.

The one thing I can say, over the years and watching things on the boards..

..things change.

So while some info that people have either may be old, new or changed, or deliberate missinformation.
This doesn't mean people are wrong (in most/some cases), just means it could be in one of those categories.

I've seen things change MANY times while following the 05 mustang from about 1999, and as I look back, it's pretty funny. I remember actually posting a thread about it and all the changes it went throught.
And the 2010 is no different.

So before people jump down other peoples throats, just remember that yes, sometimes its flat out wrong info...but sometimes its where its coming from and whether a decision has changed or not.
