Clutch Woes... At the dealer for 1-2 weeks
So, let me start with saying my car has NOT been babied. While it hasnt seen the actual track, I must have powershifted it 100 or so times.
The car felt beautiful, it shifted like a dream. Never jammed up, or missed gears. It was fantastic. I loved the car so much, I have 4600 miles on my car and i've only owned it 27 days.
With all that being said, during Mustang Week (a 1000 mile road trip for me), the clutch all of a sudden drastically changed. It was no longer buttery smooth, but light at the top, and heavy at the bottom. The engagement point went from top/middle to 1/2" off the floor. The car was still 100% driveable, but just different. Saddly, the car would NOT shift right at high rpm (6500+) and it would lock out some of the gears. Most likely due to the clutch not disengaging correctly...
As soon as I got back to NH, I brought it to the dealer. At first they thought it was a leaky master cylinder, letting air into the system. However, after that was deemed not it, they are going to replace the entire clutch assemble. At least thats what I got out of the service manager. He said he would have more info for me tomorrow.
The bad news, they can not get the parts till August 5th, so my car will be out of commission for a while.
I am a huge Ford dan, and I still stand behind my mustang. But at the same time, I want to install longtubes and a catback, but dont want any trouble with the warranty. Hope this fixes the problem for good

Sorry but it won't fix it for good as you put it. The way you drive it's obvious you need a tougher clutch but that will also give out in time due to the way it is being drove. No majic bullet with "hot rods"

Gene K posted a thread about his clutch issues. I presume you've seen that, yes? Also, any thoughts on why you powershift so much? Are you racing the car?

It is something either related to the pressure plate, or something in the pedal assembly

Beating up a car definitely reduces the time in which you'll need to seek repairs. The harder you run it, the more rapidly it'll exhibit issues. You've simply proven this. Continued driving this hard this often will cause the problem to re-occur.

She saw 400-500(100 of them on drag radials) 1/4 mile passes, all she ever needed was a replacement clutch

This is a known issue
Its the bolts that hold the pressure plate to the flywheel, they are having trouble with them backing themselves out in certain circumstances and this is not a blanket (meaning everyone) issue, this is made worse by lots of high RPM usage.
Mine has already been replaced (2-3 weeks ago), I was the first one.
Ford Enginnering had to bring parts to my dealer to try, since no parts were available through normal channels.
I am running some new style bolts to see if they hold up better. My car is going back to Ford Corporate within the next two weeks for them to see how they held up.
Please PM me your vin and the name of the dealer the car is at.

Hmmm.... wonder if this is going to affect my V6. They'll probably reprogram the PCM and lower the RPM limit.

Well, given the delay on manual cars getting out, I wouldn't be surprised. But I'm not going to worry about it until it happens. Right now it seems fine. No point in dreaming up an issue that isn't there yet.
Heading to MI for another trip this weekend. We'll see how it goes. Should turn 5k+ miles by the time I'm back in VA on Sunday.
