Modern paint will last 10 years.
Tell that to my 2006's hood paint.

My 2011 Red Tint Mustang Gt looked awful from the factory. Way to much orange peel. The paint looked dull. So I wet sanded it with 2000 grit and polished it and now it looks great. The paint protection that dealers offer is just a glorified paint sealant that you can get and do yourself for $30.00.

Make sure they use quality products not 55 gallon drum bulk products. If they apply products witha rotary buffer DO NOT use that shop otherwise the car will look like the truck above. If you do this properly the paint will look great ten years from now. This is what I used to own before I bought the 5.0. Its black, over three years old, raced, shown, and driven. The car didnt look it.

If you have any other questions feel free to contact me.
You live in Round Lake IL????

Nice car- sure is clean if you live in IL with all our salt.

Properly taken care of it will last longer than that...

Sounds good, would you be interested in a trade for a bridge I have, or some everglade swamp land?

I have to say forget it. As an example, my mother in law is 86 years old. She drives a 2000 VW Jetta, which is RED! This car has never, to my knowledge, been hand waxed. It will get the liquid stuff at the car wash, but that's it. It has even been washed with dish detergent. Long story short, it has survived 10 South Dakota winters, and summers, and the paint looks almost as good as the day it left the dealer. No rust, or faded spots.

Of course if I tried this my paint would most likely peel off in sheets

she is 86 which means she was 76 when she got the car...............how many times has she really hit the road on that sucker?!?!? She can't possibly be driving that thing like a 25yo would be. So it might be garaged alot and safe only from that or the germans make a mean paint!

She has driven it every day, and I mean every day. She volunteers at the YMCA, on the front desk, and swims laps in the morning after getting off.

It is garaged, but sits outside while she works at the "Y". She also drives to a local park so she can walk laps on the track, during the summer.

I honestly have no idea why the paint has lasted and looks as good as it does.

You guys are braver than me .... The Factory Clear coat has to be incredibly thin ... there is no way I would want it any thinner by wet sanding it.

If it is sanded with 2000 or better grit paper you will take of a very minimal amout of the surface layer, just enough to smooth out the peel.

If the person doing it knows what they are doing then it won't be a problem.

For those of you worried about wet sanding, read this article:

http://www.autopia.org/forum/content...l-removal-142/

If Autopia still shows up as a warning site, don't worry. They had issues, but got them resolved.
