CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AGAIN!!!

I'm now a bit over 800 miles and for the 2nd time the check engine light has come on. The first was shortly after giving my father in law a jump start and I assumed since it seemed to be running sweetly, that was the culprit. I just removed the battery cables and rebooted. Last night after some moderately spirited driving NOT CRAZY just zippy, it came on again.

I took it in and it was throwing a code 0300 which apparently meant that the engine had a misfire. They found nothing and ultimately just reset the computer. They advised me to contact them if it happened again.

This slows my goal of ordering tune and cai as I don't want them blamed if this becomes systemic. So, I'll drive it for a few weeks before making cai and tune decision. Assuming that it doesn't reoccur, it should be a good time to research the experiences of others.

BUMMER to take a car not two weeks old in for check engine....

Man that sucks... I'm very skeptical to do ANY types of performance mods to my ride incase anything were to happen they will question the mod and say the mod is at fault.

Well just take your ride in so they can fix it. I had a TON of problems with my 08 when I first had her, so I know what its like. Hope you get it fixed.

Good Luck

NEVER EVER give jump-starts with your late model computer controlled car without surge protection.

There are jumper cable sets that have surge and reverse polarity protection built in, they have a box in the middle that has the electronics in them to do this. They aren't cheap but they are cheaper than a new PCM and repair labor on your car.

Alternately, you can do like I do and not do a jump-start for anyone.

If someone needs a jump is a close family or friend i'd be more then happy to use one of my AAA strikes since I NEVER use it, just have it just in case is needed.

Interesting about getting a misfire code, given the OASIS message about rough idles and not fixing them unless the car throws a code. Was it idling rough when the light came on?

Wow, thanks for this I would have never known. I'm going to go buy the proper jumper cable.

Eric, maybe you got a bad tank of gas? Hope it doesn't happen to you again. I have beatin the crap out of my car and never had a check engine light come on. Even with 87 octane in her.

thats why I have a jump box I keep in my truck. Not trying to replace any electronics. And the code was probably some watered down gas. Hope you dont have any more problems

Running beautifully before, during and after code. That's why i'm not overly concerned.

Good advice I will be following from this point forward. Hopefully this will be the end of things.

Hey Eric glad it was'nt
anything to serious.I know the feeling as I had a CEL last week.I was on a trip up north to Santa Clara and got a check eng light. My car ran fine with no problems but It bothered me that I did'nt have my tuner with me to check and clear the codes.

I suspected it was related to my highflow cats because it did'nt occur untill after I had them installed.
You will be fine with CAI/tune I had no CEL or issues with these mods.

as soon as I got back from my trip I checked the codes and sure enough P0420(catalyst effeciency)

I cleared the code and turned off rear o2 sensors and have not had any CEL since.I doubt your CEL was related to the jumpstart but you never know.Heres a link to the DTC codes that is helpful

I jump-started a semi once with my '95 SHO. Ok well, it wasn't a semi, it was a big Coors Light beer hauler, but it had dual batteries and the same engine as a semi. The coors light guy was absolutely certain there was no way a taurus was going to jump-start a trailer hauler, but the big ol' 120A alternator and blue-top Optima kept on chugging until twenty minutes later it started up. I got a free case of coors light out of the deal, but the look on the guy's face when it started was what made it worth it. A few base cops were pretty **** surprised too.

The SHO was no worse for wear, either. But yeah, I wouldn't try it in a newer car. There isn't a whole lot in the way of electronics on a 95 SHO.
