I believe this has been covered in the past, however, I have only 17,000 miles on the car and decided to check my filter. It was black and coated with dirt. If you live in a dusty area, you may want to check this filter and change it. Takes all of ten minutes. I am attaching a video I used as a guide.

The part number, from Ford is: 4R3Z-19N619-AA ($24.98)

***One thing, the passenger side wiper is in the way. Place the wipers in a vertical park position and this will allow you to easily remove the plastic access cover from the car. It really makes removal and installation of the filter a piece of cake, and much easier then shown in the video. No skinned knuckles.

 

Nice. I'll be changing mine this spring for the first time. I only drive around 6,000 miles a year so changing it every two years will work for me .

10 minutes to change the cabin filter? That's nice, a lot of cars seem to be more of a pain. Last car I changed it on required pulling part of the dash apart and laying upside down on the passenger seat.

Update:

I noticed the filter, bought new from the dealer, was a little smaller then the one that came with the car. I was working on some other things, and forgot about it until this morning. I checked the part number on the old filter and it is different. Here it is, so you can check with the dealer to see what the difference is. I think the old one is a charcoal filter while the new one is not.

The old one has the word "MicronAir" on it, while the new one does not.

Here is is old filter part number: 8RR33-18D483-AA

I'll definitely be doing this once the weather warms up. I know my last car's CAF was getting completely blasted with dust in a year or so. I tried blowing it off with the air compressor, but had no luck.

Apparently the WIX 24687 is another replacement option.

 

I changed mine with 1-year and about 24,000 miles on my car, and it didn't look that bad, but I recommend everyone change the cabin air filter at least once a year.

On the Mustang, the cabin air filter is only used when drawing in fresh/outside air, so it really isn't a cabin air filter as much as it is a pollen/debris air filter.

The new filter did fit in the frame with no problem. It was not quite as thick or heavy as the original one.

 

There is only one filter on the car, but it appears there are two parts that can be used for replacement. I believe the original filter that came with the car has a charcoal filter element, while the replacement my dealer came up with only has a plain paper filter element.

 

I replaced mine yesterday, part was $24.99 then with my discount I got it for $13.49.

It fit perfectly and the old one having 18,000 miles was pretty dirty.

I was curious if your replacement filter was charcoal or just plain paper? I haven't been back to the dealer to have him check as to why their are two different part numbers, and to see why the old filter is heavier, with what appears to be better quality then the overpriced replacement.

 

It was bright white. I do not believe it was charcoal. The fit was nice and tight.

cabin filter for mine is 999 or 13.99 for the bosh piece, both prices are from autozone

 

Not trying to bring back an old thread, but I used this today to check my filter. My 2012 5.0 has 26k miles and my filter still looked new. I always use the recir. setting so maybe that is why.
