Caution: Don't bother utilizing your trunk
My trunk gets heavy usage. I typically keep my laptop for work in my trunk so at a minimum I'm opening my trunk 2 times a day, 5 times a week. I've owned this car for about a year which means I've opened the trunk at least 500 times.
Yesterday I noticed paint from the trunk lid is missing around the entire part that touches the weather strip. Luckily I'm still under warranty, but this is truly unacceptable and I don't see why it won't eventually happen to every mustang on the road.

It's a DD so at work it's in the sun. At home it's in the garage. I'm also in the Midwest so we have everything from 0 degree winters to 99 degree summers. I'm sure that played a role, but either the paint should be better protected or that strip shouldn't be so tight on the seal

Wow!
The GF basically used the 6'ers trunk for her locker.. school, the gym, work, etc.. I'll bet she's opened that trunk atleast 6 times a day sometimes 7 days a week! The car is alittle over 2yrs old with 62k miles on her. I'll have to check and see if hers looks like that as well.
For that matter, I wonder if the GT is like that too? I used mine as a DD for 2 1/2 - 3yrs and I get in the trunk atleast 4 times a day...
Though I religiously clean the rubber seals, door frames, and trunk drain tracks so it'll be interesting to see if the wear on mine is any different then hers.

My trunk gets heavy usage too. I'm in and out of it al least 4 times a day - laptop in/out in the morning and i/out in the evening, plus I usually make a grocery store stop on the way home. I do not have any paint wear. It's parked in an underground lot so very little sunlight. Take it to the dealer.
I've seen this before on other vehicles, and to tell you the truth, weatherstripping only works when there's pressure between the material and the surface of the paint. When there's pressure, there's pushing/pulling. When you open the trunk, the weatherstripping will pull some on the paint. It's not a lot, but for the weatherstripping to work there must be some pressure between the two pieces of metal that are being used to compress the material. It's not good, of course, but it doesn't surprise me.

Mine also has the dark line of rubber, but it comes off very easily, no signs of paint damage.
To me it looks like the inside of the trunk lid did not get a good coat of clear coat and is a little rougher in texture than the exterior paint.
I will be doing a little heavier detailing on the trunk lid very very soon.

I would suspect it has something to do with the painting process. On a side note, I give all of my painted metal a good coat of wax and I use a rubber protectant on the seals. That decreases the likelihood of things sticking to each other. Works for me.
^ Same, if you mean the edge towards the front of the car, and same year/color. It looks as though it took the gray layer off in a very narrow line, showing white/primer(?). I didn't touch it to see.
I'd have never noticed it if it hadn't been mentioned here, it's not a place you'd normally look at.

. It's almost like the paint was still wet when they closed the trunk...
