Car & Driver Sucks!
Car & Driver Sucks!
Those bustards put an article on their website titled "2011 Ford Mustang - First Ride". Then only after reading the entire article do you realize that is nothing more than the same statistical stuff you have read on every other automotive website in existence.
Not once do they say anything about the ride-along experience other than "We weren’t allowed to drive the 2011 Mustangs yet, but we did get some passenger-seat time. Driving us around the Dearborn proving ground in a GT, vehicle dynamics manager Mark Rushbrook said Ford’s goal was to replicate the feel of the 2010 Track pack–equipped GT throughout the Mustang lineup."
That's it! A two page article supposedly about their first opportunity to ride in a new GT and all they did was re-hash stuff we already knew.

Yeah, kind of lame. Guess its something to get a ride along, but really doesn't add much real info.
Unless they are lying about being there why couldn't they have written some of their impressions about riding in the 2011 Mustangs? Instead they are just using the title of the article as a teaser so you will read a bunch of rehashed data. At least Motor Trend had the journalistic integrity to actually write about and provide video of their ride-along in a 2011 V6. I don't know all the reasons why Ford seems to give preference to MT but this just reinforces their reasons for doing so.

Looks like they are estimating the 5.0L at 4.5 seconds to 60mph and 12.8 seconds for the quarter mile, and for the 3.7L, 5.0 seconds to 60mph and 13.6 for the quarter mile. Do you all think the Mustang V-6 is going to be that fast? The Camaro V-6 does 0 to 60 in 5.9 to 6.0 seconds according to the couple of road test i have read. It is looking like both of these Mustang's are going to scream!!! Go Ford!!! Sorry i got carried away for a second LOL!!!

I think the V6 car is going to surprise the hell out of people when it finally gets a full test with a good driver. Everyone already expects big things from the new GT, only way it will be a surprise is if it is slower than expected.
I think the V6 car is at least as exciting as the new 5.0 if not more. You just don't expect a 6 cylinder Mustang to come out with such high tech specifications as it is going to have. I know they are trying to keep the edge on the bowtie car but it really seems to blow it away by the specs.

I call 0-60 for the V6 to be 5.3-5.7, depending on transmission/Performance Pack, 1/4 miles at 13.5.-13.9.
For the GT, I really don't know. I'd say 4.4-4.8 depending on gears and transmission, 1/4 12.7-12.9.

"HP sells cars, but torque wins races."
I think 0-60 in 5.5-6s and 14s quarter mile would still be pretty impressive for a V6.
*** this at some length, I think it was titled "will the 2011 V6 kick the 2010 GT's butt" or something like that
True, but C&D can claim crazy numbers like that. They beat the crap out of their test cars, and everyone knows that their test track is at a slight downhill angle
!. They clocked the new Panamera Turbo 0-60 time at 3.3 seconds....

The new Boss engine is great but Ford needs to get serious about performance. Its time for 6.4L Power Stroke® V8 Turbo Diesel for the GT. Sure its given up 60 HP to the Boss but it has 650 lbs/ft of torque! That should crush the Boss in the quarter cause torque wins races!
The April Motor Trend had an article that at first glance looked like a road test of the 2011 V6 Mustang against the V6 Camaro and Challenger. It did not offer any testing data outside of a 0-60 guess of 5.8 seconds. it was a first drive/ride article. Most of the article was spent bashing the 4.0 V6.
