Do the 4.6 3 valve cars also have Variable Cam Timing or just the 5.0 Coyote 4 valve's ? If the 4.6 3 valves have them, then I must had forgotten

Yeah they do, but since it is a single overhead cam, it cannot vary the intake and exhaust independently.

Thanks once again John.. Guess I haven't realized just how old and obsolete the technology between the 4.6 3 valves are when compared with the current 5.0 Coyote 4 valves..

Heck it only seems like yesterday when I purchased my first S197 back in 2005.. And no matter how hard you try to convince yourself that your not getting older.. Father time just keeps stalking you faster and faster like a predator anyhow

And I addressed your question when I specifically stated in my original response that most of your power comes from the tune and not from the cold air intake!!!

As for making a little extra power from a non-tuned CAI is concerned ? Sure you may see an additional 3-6 HP gain compared to stock, but just as the other posters have already said, your not going to notice nor feel any real difference..

So in the end, why bother spending your hard earned money for a non-tuned CAI that you'll only wind up being disappointed with when you can get yourself a custom tuned CAI that your going to notice real seat in the pants performance gains from..

In fact, you'd have far more to gain by just getting a custom tune for your stock airbox than you would from a non-tuned CAI, while also saving yourself some $$$$ in the process as well

Yeah, I think it's been pretty well established that the stock intake on these cars isn't that restrictive and the aftermarket intakes are more for looks and sound

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Therefore without a tune, that's pretty much all the non-tuned/aftermarket intakes are really good for IMHO..

Here's a link from Alternative Auto Performance in which Lidio got an additional 20+RWHP/25+RWTQ from a 2011-14 GT with just the stock airbox and custom tuning..

Installing an aftermarket intake won't provide significant power gain. There are other performance mods that you need to do.

The non-tune intakes, I completely agree with.. The larger intakes such as JLT, Airaid and Steeda that require re-flashing the ECM with aftermarket tuning will provide up to 25-30HP/Torque gains..
