Buying Advise 2013-2014 needed?
Dear everyone,
I am new to this forum.
I currently drive a 2011 Volvo 2.0t S60.
This is chipped to the 270bhp but I am looking for a little more power and would like rear wheel drive.
In addition, I also think the Ford mustangs are very cool to look at.
And the sound has something too.
Now I'm looking around for a Ford mustang.
A 3.7 liter V6 Bj: 2013-2014
V8 is out of my budget
Now my question is what should I pay attention to when purchasing this car?
Is a convertible reliable?
Is it wise to have the car checked by an external garage before purchasing?
Up to what mileage would you recommend purchasing a Mustang?
Common Known defects with these years?
all tips are welcome.
I'd love to hear!

My advice is to request a car fax report before purchasing regarding any history of potential collision damages... Also, if you are not mechanically inclined, then yes, I would most definitely have the vehicle in question checked over by an external garage before purchasing...
As for common defects/reliability is concerned, I would suggest selecting the search function menu by scrolling to the top of the home page... When the drop-down window displays, type in "2013-14 V6 known defects or reliability issues" and then click on OK...
You should then come across a listing of thread submissions that are related to known defects or reliability issues... In the meantime, hope you find the information provided useful!

Goodmorning!
Thanks for the tip of the car fax report. didn't know it existed and i will for sure do that tanks!
I know the basics of a the motor of a car and everything around it. But not sure where to look at when buying one.
So i guess i will let a external garage have a quick look/drive.
This build year has a timing chain and not a belt right?
should this one be replaced at 120.000 km?
I saw a nice blue premium convertible but i think im going for a non convertible.
Seems more durable and more space in de back.
Should i go for a mustang with under the 100.000 km on the dash?
or isn't there nothing to worry about with a millage over the 100.000 km?
Thanks for the provided info so far!

I can't advise anything on V6 cars but I was in your situation last summer before buying our '14 GT convertible. I'm sure the same things should apply to you. of course the Carfax mentioned by m05fastbackGT is quite important but also remember that it is not 100% accurate in all situations. It's still a very helpful tool in the overall picture.
Now for the other boxes that we checked before buying ours: the lower the miles the better as there is that same amout of use on every component of the car, not just the drivetrain. Another box checked should be the number of owners. Too many indicates a checkered history with no info on maintenance available. Did just one of those owners abuse the car?? No thanks, look for a one or two owner machine if possible. Garage kept? Another important factor for us, and should be for you too. A car approaching 10 years old will suffer if left in the elements for that period of time, and a convertible left outside, NO WAY!!!! These are just the tip of the iceberg but I can't keep typing forever.
The cloth premium convertible tops in these cars are excellent. We had an '07 GT 'vert before our '14 purchase and it was still perfectly fine when we sold it. Of course I am demented with upkeep and keeping it top notch. That means RAGGTOPP products being used every year and the seals and rubber components being kept as new as possible. Watch for thread tears and dry rubber when inspecting the car you want to purchase. The convertible latches seem to last fine as does the entire operating system. Remember that the top does not fold down completely when lowered. It naturally sticks up a bit (see photos below) in the 2005-2014 model years.
Good luck with your search and be patient and willing to travel to find the right car.
The top does NOT fold down entirely. That's normal.
Same 'down' position with 2014 model. Sticks up a little and is normal.

3 things to check,
1) The Vent in the rear end housing, if it isn't updated it needs to be to prevent leaks in Pinion and axle seals.
2) Airbag Recall on both front airbags done
3) Make sure the Degas Line has been updated to the one with the check valve in it, saves the water pump I see you are in I believe the Netherlands so finding a car that has already gone through Customs would be nice also. I do not know about Import or Duties if you imported from somewhere there was more cars.

Hello all,
I agree with the millage.
I'am going to search for a mustang under the 100.000 km.
Yeah its hard to tell if someone always kept there convetible in the garage or not.
But i guess you could see that by the wear of the rubbers and the darkness of the roof.
That green is kinda cool, haven't seen that color before.
But i think im more in for the hard tops.
Here some cars that i found.
Convetible:
little over 100.000 miles
Prices seems only to good to be true for the state he is in.
I also read a lot of bad reviews about this company that sells it so that doesn't feel right.
But those collors are in my opinion amazing!
https://www.autoscout24.nl/aanbod/fo...order_bucket=0
Non convertible
This seems like a car of my taste.
only over budget.
Im willing to pay around 24.000 max.
https://www.autoscout24.nl/aanbod/fo...order_bucket=0
The 3 things to check from siber express:
1: Good tip, but this could also been done after buying one right?
Not a huge deal if it isn't done yet? Just nice to have to prefend leaks?
2: I read something about this i think so. but if this isn't done yet i can still let this be done for free right?
3: Thanks for the link! i will have a look after this.
Im looking for a mustang from a garage. i want a couple months of garanthee that im not getting from somebody who sells his car on a website.
Yes i live in the netherlands. bad thing about that is that i have to deal with the BPM.
This is a rule of the goverment where they charge money over the new price of a car.
They calculate by the amount co2 gasses the car pushes out.
For example:
Ford mustang 5.0 V8 new price in america something around 45-50.000 right?
In the netherlands you are paying around the 110.000 for the same car.
55.000 goes straight to the goverment
Thats why the cars are little more expensive here second hand aswell.
Im not needing this car this month.
but i hope to find one in 2-3 months thats affortable and to my likings.
Sorry for incorrect grammar if i did. My grammar isn't the best because im dutch.
Thanks for all the tips so far!
And if you have anymore i would like to hear!

The old metal hat that has been used for years was replaced on the 8.8 in the 2005 and up with 1 that would plug up, this was the replacement.

Not mine but someone else's I found
My Pinion seal went out and was replaced under warranty and they actually replaced it with the same one (before the TSB came out). I now have the Turkey Baster style in mine now.

Is it located in the rear axle tube housing with the Blue paint mark just before the pinion gear cover? If it is, how does it come off... Anyhow, I never really noticed it before until you just recently brought it up in your post responses

Thanks for all the info!
If i bought something i will let you guys know. Probably in 2-4 months.
I think the pinion seal is that pointy metal thing in the middle of the picture that he sends. I believe there is thread on that part so you can get it out with a wrench.
