Is there any magical unknown way of making my gauges brighter? A mod maybe? I really dislike the intensity and saturation of the gauges and their colors. For example the daytime white is nice and bright, but turn on the headlights and it's half as bright, even with the dimmer at it's maximum. Same thing, especially with the Halos, They always seem so washed out.

Any ideas? I know on my old GTO, a dealer could program this change.

 

I like brighter also. Never tried it myself... but what if you leave the color out altogther?

I think the 'custom' colors look dimmer than the regular red, blue, green, etc.

 

I completely agree! I love the brightness of the daytime white. I wish I could make the mycolor that bright.

 

I have been playing around with the colors the last couple of days because of installing custom gauge faces. I found that the plain blue is significantly brighter than any of the other colors. Of course part of that is because the new face has only the numbers illuminated rather than the entire top half of the gauge face.

 

Following this one, I agree with the OP.

 

The Blue is the only nighttime color that really has any pop, any combination after that is pretty weak. So I do agree with that statement, but this makes the mycolor seem kinda sucky and I end up sticking to one color or another, because the saturation of color intensity in others flat out sucks.

 

Side question

How in the hell do you reduce mycolor glare from the gauges on your windshield? Super annoying

 

^ Don't know if you can. It's the halos that seem to reflect the most, so choose the dimmest halo or none if you can... Yeah, that plain blue is very bright, I like it. I use it for the numbers etc. and the light ice-blue for the halo (still reflects...).

 

Sucks. If they extended the gauge housing just a bit more there'd be no reflection

 

^ That's what I thought of too. It's not bright enough to be a HUD as is... Maybe a real dark tint, or washing your inside driver's front window with espresso... But I wonder if the chrome trim rings are partly causing this, I haven't checked?

 

I turned off the halo's and I run everything in green. I find green works just fine at night. I use my 9500IX to tell me my exact speed, not the speedo so I don't mind the gauges being a little less bright...

 

I actually like the reflection LOL. It's like my own little fake HUD lol

It's not dark enough yet for me to test, but to continue that little thought, I wonder if the bottom inside surfaces of the chrome trim rings are the culprits? [Can't be the outer surfaces of the trim rings doing it, gotta be inside.] If so, some dull-finish black electrical tape on the bottom inside of the trim rings might work and not look too bad...if the reflection really bothers you more than the tape would. Edit: I will also test with matte finish Scotch tape, anything to cut down the shinyness...less visible and not too upscale for my car, don't want to be a poser...

Edit: well that totally didn't work, looks like it has to be a shroud of some sort. I sit very tall in the seat, being the captain and all, which means I see more of the reflected gauges but OTOH the reflections aren't at all directly in my straight-ahead vision.

 

I always thought mine were too bright and dim them down a bit. One of the blues is way too bright and i can't even use it.

 

Just drive with them dim for a while then turn them up! Placebo effect haha

 

weird green car for a weird guy - always loved green, when I saw this color I said to myself, GOTTA HAVE IT!....

 

Don't feel alone Xar - I use the green as well on a Black car.

I like it so much that I am eventually doing the whole car's color scheme in black and green...

 

 

It really does work though. It's almost blinding when you turn them back up. I learned this on my sn95!
