Ha. No, I do need it and am probably not going to do the trade. Even with this being an expensive year, maintenance-wise, 5 grand is still a lot less than a year of car payments.

This is reminding me, however, that if all people tracked their car expenses like I do, I think a lot of people would change their buying habits.
- $32,000 for the car + sales tax
- $13,314 for property taxes, maintenance, tires, winter tires/wheels, a couple mods
- $13,647 for 95,520 miles worth of fuel since I bought her
TOTAL of $58,961 for 5 years of owning a car...and I don't think that's abnormal, as the car has been probably average as far as reliability. Cars are frickin' expensive man.

That property tax blows!!!

People who pay promptly taxes on cars should be standing outside their capital building with pitch forks.

I just put a grand into the AC system in the bronco and that was the whole thing from compressor to condense and even lines. Labor too.

Yep. Pay sales tax when you buy it and property tax every frickin' year you own it. It was just over a grand the first year and was about $600 this past year.

Just for clarification I am not suggesting never fix it. I am not the drive it into the ground until it is worth nothing type of person. Was just mentioning if things were tight this is a good time of year to be without AC. At least where I live. Sorry this happened to your ride by the way...

What's that you say? Another Ford AC system bites the dust. Welcome to the club. A very big club. Lots of members. Nobody is happy about this club.

At 6 years old and 107K miles, it is what it is. Parts wear out and this is not premature to me, though I'd obviously have liked for it to last longer.

You're lucky. Most of the time the crap compressors that Ford puts in these cars kick the bucket long before the 100K mark.

Got my car back all repaired yesterday and the bill was just over $2,000. Ugh. The service guy at my dealer agreed that, short of an engine/transmission or maybe the entire rear axle assembly, there's no more expensive part to fix on this car. And the mechanic that worked on it had never seen one go bad or done the repair so super happy to know I got (un)lucky there.

The Ford book says it should be a 10 hour job and the mechanic ended up taking 15 to do it since it was the first time - thankfully, this dealer charges for book rate.

LMAO, You believe that did you? The mechanic must have been working at Ford for about a week.

Enjoy 8 pages worth of AC failures and that's just people who post on this forum.

You really need a new car. Anything that makes you this bitter isn't worth having. Sorry your experience has been so bad.

Way ahead of you buddy lol. This will have been my second Ford car that turned out to be a total pile. I don't think I'll give them a third chance. I just didn't want you to be caught by surprise. Ford's quality has apparently gone down quite a bit in the last several years.

Maybe you should buy a Camaro and give GM a chance.

Blind spots are just so bad in the Camaro though. No instead I went GMC truck. Figure I'm done with the sports coupe stuff for awhile. If and when I go back to a sports coupe it will be a weekend only car and it's going to be a real sports car, not a Mustang / Camaro / Challenger type of car. More likely Corvette or 911.

Wow, yeah your property taxes are crazy . . . I live in Taxachusetts, and I'm not really sure what we pay, but it is not even close to those numbers (after the 6.5% that we pay for sales tax, that is)

Prop taxes over the 5 years are probably in the $3,800 total range. No idea how that compares as I came from WI where we don't have them.

Heck, My boss would not even let us drive across Kansas because of the property taxes. It was something like if you drove across Kansas you had to pay for the Months you were in the state. Got pretty expensive on a $100,000 Semi
I also remember sending my separate check to Ethel Wright in Billerica for the Excise tax on my Ranchero back in the 80's Bert.

You'd think Missouri would be BEGGING for people to come live there, and not tax the sh*t out of them... And I thought Indiana kinda sucked
