Brick Red Leather Interior & Security Package
Brick Red Leather Interior & Security Package
Hey guys, newbie here with very little posts but I have been reading your posts for a long time and thoroughly enjoy all of the useful information and opinions shared on this forum. I have found myself visiting the site daily since I first discovered it.
I am about to order my 2011 Mustang GT. I am extremely excited as I have wanted a muscle car all my life and have only owned trucks and sport utilities up to this point. I am now at a point where I can make my dream a reality.
I was planning on ordering a black GT premium with 401A brick red leather, brembos, 3:73, electronics package, pedestal spoiler and comfort package. I have been dead set on those options until recently and I am starting to get cold feet on some options. I am finding myself second guessing the interior color and whether or not to pay extra for the security package (My budget is stretched thin now).
I know this is a subjective question but I would like to get everyone's opinions on the brick red leather interior. I love the color right now, especially with the black exterior but I am concerned that it may fade and not wear as well overtime as the black with cashmere interior. I am also worried that I eventually may grow tired of it. However, every time I see pictures of it or see it in person I love it.
The second thing I have been thinking about is the security system. I have read the posts that state it has active anti-theft and locking wheel nuts. I park in my garage and I don't planning on parking my car in any sketchy areas. I was thinking that the base security system would work fine but I have never had a car with flashy wheels like the brembos. I am also wondering if the active-anti theft serves as a lojack type system that should make me reconsider adding this package. It would likely force me to drop the comfort package.
Any opinions or insight on this would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for rambling. Thanks for your help and all of the great information provided on these forums!

I absolutely love the brick red, even more so with black. The contrast is just amazing. You can just buy the wheel locks from the parts department for $40, or probably online for half that. Personally, I'd much rather have the comfort over the security. You already have the security package; it's called insurance.
If you want to save money, remove the Brembos and / or the electronics package. The security package is relatively cheap by comparison. It does not act like Lo-Jack, but it does add sensors so that it will go off if someone jacks up your car to try to steal your wheels or if it senses motion in the cabin. I don't think you can beat what it does for the price. Think about it. Just because you live in Roswell doesn't mean someone won't try to steal your car. If you were a car thief, would you target cars in Roswell or cars in College Park? http://www.crimereports.com/map/inde...eet+Roswell+GA
I think the red interior will look awesome with black exterior. Black w/ red was my first color choice. I ended up changing to race red with black interior because I didn't want the hassle of keeping a black car clean.

Welcome!
If you fall in love with it every time you see it, then go for it! I don't like the brick red personally and even the saddle I love but am affraid I will get tired of it to. Any 401A interior is solid though, very beautifully done. If you are a person that has a unique sense of style and want to add a bit of custom flair to that black interior then go for it! It's like a first love, it will probably make you grin every time you see it. BTW, tint the windows and use a good leather treatment and you shouldn't have any problems!
Can't say for sure if the security works like Lo-Jack as I don't install them. I know from what I read, it does not work like lo-jack at all. I am almost on the same boat with you, I want a GT bad and am dropping options I deem not really worthwhile just to bring any cost down that I can. In my gut, I feel like the security package is worthwhile. We recently got lo-jack put on the beemer so I can only hope it does not get stolen
And if so I hope lo-jack works in our favor. There are many members that might be able to help you in this regard. There are aftermarket solutions but if you are trying to keep cost down, you might just have to do some planning. The alarm only keeps the honest ones out, when it's gone it's gone. Lo-jack only offers a tad bit more security on a personal level. Doesn't mean my car can't be vandalized.
The wheel locks are nice too, but like stated before if they want it badly enough, they will get it. I too park in a nice garage in down town so it's not sketchy or anything, it's the only reason I am considering dropping the security package. If I can afford all I want, I will get it all, if not, I will get what I can.
What is it about the comfort package that you need? The auto dimming mirror is now standard on premiums so if that's a concern as it was with me, you need not worry. Seat heat is awesome and I live in Texas. I could live without it though. No one is really in my passenger seat by my lovely so when she gets it adjusted it will stay.
You should seek out a brick red interior on a dealer lot to go sit in. Then make up your mind!

Thanks guys. The contrast is what makes me like it so much too. Good to get post from two local guys.
Coffejolts if you don't mind me asking what dealer did you purchase your mustang through? I am leaning towards Chestate.
I think I am probably going to stick with the brick red interior. Great point and useful website on the crime reports. That's right around my neighborhood. The only part of my that doubts the security package is how many times do you hear car alarms going off an nobody does anything? In the likely wheel theft scenario you mentioned would the standard alarm not go off?

Great feedback. Please keep it coming!
I don't know how often I would use the heated seats on the comfort package but I'm sure it would be nice in the winter. I was thinking that the 6 way seats for the driver and passenger would add value to the car. Also it may be part of the electronics package and not the comfort but I really would want the duel climate control. I like the AC pumping in the summer and my girlfriend not so much.
I had an aftermarket car alarm in high school on my 91 Navajo. My car stereo along with my brothers was stolen right out of our drive way and the alarm never went off. That was infuriating.

Get the red interior. Black/Red is a classic combo. Also, if I had to choose, I'd get Comfort over Security. I don't really need heated seats, but they are nice to have...same with power passenger seat. More important to me though, is I HATE unused fake buttons on my dash. Don't drop the Electronics Pkg. It's worth it.
The Security Pkg is good to have, but with today's anti-theft keys and immobilizers, I don't think it's necessary. But how much are you thinking you're going to be paying for your car? The Security Pkg is only like $395 retail, and less than that at invoice. That's like $3/month or less if you're financing.....

Love the black with red interior. Drove one when ordering my 2011. Looked fantastic and very distinctive. Security package not that big of a deal in my opinion. Comfort package valuable as heated seats always nice. Electronics package in my opinion is overrated. My I-phone can get me anywhere I need to go and if your girlfriend is cold they have these things called vents you can direct or even close. 2k savings big time. Put that money towards tint or mods.
OK, time for me to get on one of my little soap boxes. Regarding the seat color, I've never understood the mentality "I love it but I'm afraid I'll get tired of it." I guess I'm an oddball. Regardless of whether we're talking about a car, a shirt, a floor, or a wall, I've never loved a color and then grown tired of it. I wonder, does it really happen or is just a myth that people tell each other? Who convinced everyone that they should not buy a color that they love? I suspect Martha Stewart had something to do with it. Apparently the alternative is to get something that bores you so that the luster will never wear off because you never cared for it that much in the first place.

Randy I don't think that's it. I've only had 2 cars in my short life time, but both were all dark interior. I've never really been fond of 'light interiors' because of the hassle of keeping them clean. However, when I get a new car I want to try something different because I'm bored with dark interiors, part of the reason I like Saddle so much. That being said, it's possible that I will get bored with it after a few years and want to go back to a dark interior. I think that's what he means...
I don't mind at all. I purchased mine from Percy Stepp at Mall of Georgia Ford. I cannot recommend him and the dealership enough, especially if you are ordering. This guy knows how to do it right. I got my VIN two days after ordering, and he sent me status updates every week. Each update included a pdf copy of the data in Ford's vehicle visibility system along with a hand written note explaining everything in plain English.
On delivery day, he made sure the car was left untouched so that I could take pictures of it. Then he helped me carefully remove all of the shipping stuff (plastic wrap, foam, bar codes, etc) and package it up for preservation. He put one of those giant dealership posters for the 5.0 in the trunk for me, then took it down for prep.
While we were waiting for the car to be cleaned and checked, a repeat customer came in to buy a new car and asked for my salesperson. Most salespeople would have taken the customer and left me; after all, he'd already earned my commission. Percy went out to the customer, explained that he was with me right now, and asked if they minded waiting until my car came back from prep. THAT is customer service.
I'm going to be writing up a letter to Mark Fields and Alan Mullaly about my experience. It was that good.

But here's the reason for my perspective. I work in a flooring store. Even though I work in the office, I help customers sometimes when all the salespeople are already busy. A couple hundred times I've heard people say "Oh, that's beautiful! But I'd probably get tired of it. I better take the beige."

dont worry about the security package its not gonna stop a pro from taking your car and the passive system (electronically coded keys) that is std will prevent any joyriders.
brick red looks great except for the steering wheel in my opinion, if you like it tho go for it the car will really stand out.
the electronics package is awesome, the voice controls and integrated nav cant be beat i love it on my car. i think one of the best choices i made in my 2010.

That is fantastic service. I am about to order through Chestate in Dahlonega. Of all the local dealers that I have talked to he has been the only one that has been truly knowledgeable about the car. The salesperson has owned 6 mustangs and genuinely seems interested in helping me whether I purchase it from him or not. Very similar to the dealers on this forum that have been so helpful to all. He has answered all of my questions very quickly and has given me the best price at $250 over invoice.
