Is anyone aware of aftermarket or alternative head rests that don't lean forward at such a steep angle like the stock headrests?

I find the stock headrests very uncomfortable; they force my head/neck to bend forward too much and it actually hurts after a long drive. I'm pretty sure I'm not alone in this. It doesn't really matter whether you recline the seat more or less; either way the head rest still sticks out too far forward of the basic seat. If I lean the seat way back and then sit up straight in it, yes the head rest is out of the way, but it's very uncomfortable to drive unsupported like this.

So anyway -- any ideas on different head rests with a more vertical design?

Have you actually tried raising it?? On it's higher levels it doesn't "push" against your head at all and your head is properly aliened, and not edged forward.

I am pretty tall so with the head rest down, it hits the bottom curve of my head just above my neck, kind of tucks in there . . . if I raise the head rest, it hits the middle of the back of my head which actually makes it worse because it pushes my head farther forward . . . maybe if I put it way way up it would be up above my head?

I'm 6'0" and it doesn't push my head forward. Do you have your seat too upright?

I think you'll have to mod the headrest yourself. They are like that in order to protect you from whiplash. No aftermarket company is going to put themselves in legal jeopardy by offering a more comfortable headrest with less whiplash protection.

I'm not sure what "too upright" means . . . I do like to sit relatively upright, don't like to drive lying down . . . if I recline the seat a little more it does help, but it also makes my arms feel too stretched out (a telescoping steering wheel would be nice too) . . . I have long legs so the seat is pushed almost all the way back.

I'll continue to play with the adjustments, but I'd really like to find some head rests with a more "normal" vertical design.

Your not alone, my wife hates her headrest. I dont' find it to be that much of a problem, but the way I have my seat I don't even feel the headrest. Maybe I got too much Gangsta lean goin on

Some have just taken the headrests out and reinserted them into the seat backwards. Thus the headrest part angles back instead of forward. Might look weird but its an easy fix to get the comfort you want

We tried this...and your head goes way too far back when you punch it...there's no happy medium.

IIRC I've heard of a few people bending the headrest post so the angle is a little less extreme. Might be worth a try if you have the necessary tools and skills to do so.

How do you raise it? I've pulled and pulled and it doesn't budge. These are GT500 seats.

There is usually a grommet with a push button around each of the two headrest posts. One of the push buttons is for regular raising and lowering the headrest, and stands proud of its grommet. The other is for removing the headrest, and sits flush with its grommet.

try the headrest out of a 09-10 escape or mariner. They go straight up and down and should slide right in to the stock seat, they do lose adjustability(slide all the way down). It's hard to find a company that is willing to modify a safety restraint.

I have my seat adjusted so the headrest touches the back of my head. Feels very nice. Maybe you can remove the headrest and bend the two rods a little?

The Seats are Jet Fighter Style. They are designed to be Reclined a Bit more than most cars. it takes a little getting Used to.

Here is a picture of a 2010 escape headrest in 2010 mustang cvt. Match the colors and you are good to go!

Looks like that could be just the ticket . . . great pic too, very clearly shows the difference between the "normal" headrest and the Mustang "jet fighter" style

Is it just the picture, or is that headrest THAT much bigger? Yikes!!

Also, is there a way to get rid of the rear headrests? The only thing they do is block my shoulder checks...

Yes you can fold them down, but they would look better gone imo.

It is a little larger, but probably wouldn't be as noticable if they were the same color. It does not look "out of place"
