The highway that runs through Croatia and Serbia Over 800 KM of well maintained highway with speed limit 120-130 KPH. Police are friendly unless you do something boneheaded. Excellent for top speed runs. Pure 93 Octane availible.

I have a tradition of taking all our new cars up there within hours/days of taking delivery. I plan the same when our '11 GT arrives (hopefully this Friday!). (Hopefully) I'll have some pics of a Grabber Blue on Rt 97 soon.
The Black Hills of Western South Dakota. Look for the Iron Mountain road, one lane tunnels, switchbacks, called the pig tails...this is fun in May and Sept, closed in the winter, crowded with tourists from Jun to Aug. But there are many other great drives all through the area. Custer State Park, slow drive, but great road with lakes and places to stop as well as several places to eat. Watch for Buffalo...they will damage the car
Also home to the Sturgis Mustang Rally, in Sept. Just thought of that, here is a link if anyone is interested:

Some fellow Mazda owners gave me a lovely route that goes around central MI, on back roads, and intertwines with Car & Driver's "10 Best" route. It's a good local place to take the car for a spin and do some spirited driving, and also offers some great visuals as the leaves change.
Aside from that, Deal's Gap is hard to beat.

Two nominations:
UT HWY 12 between Panguich, Tropic, Boulder, and Torrey, UT: this "3 hour" drive is 65% scenic and 45% driving. Colorful eroded cliffs, slickrock sandstone, and aspen forests are just some of the attractions. One part of the road runs for a few miles along the crest of a ridge that is just wide enough for a single lane and a little bit of shoulder in each direction. Guardrails? We don't need no stinkin' guardrails!
ID HWY 36 between Weston and I-15 north of Malad City, IT: this "45 minute" drive is 70% driving and 30% scenic (maybe more). The drive is a rollercoaster through rolling rural ranchland punctuated by a short rugged canyon with standing stones. Light traffic makes it a joy to drive.

Or, we could do just one a year, but each year have it in a different part of the country.
I know it was months ago that it was mentioned, but, corvettedreamin, I'm in Western, MD, and I think you should plan an event where people from our areas meet up for a Mustang Cruise of the Dragon
I know I'd go, so long as it's a Saturday!

Now that spring is here (depending on where you live) I thought it's time to revive this thread. Does anybody have any big road trips planned for this year? I'm going to the Sturgis Mustang Rally in South Dakota and will spend a day driving some of the more scenic roads in the area.
SW Ohio- from Zanesville, pick up Rt. 555 South ("Triple Nickel") and go all the way down to the OH River. Take a Left on Rt. 7 and head toward Marietta. LOTS of great roads around there! Rt. 26, 536 and 260 are good ones to start with.
PA Roads
For PA, I second the section around Ringing Rocks and in particular Red Hill road in Ottsville. The small roads leaving Carversville are "interesting" also.
More North, I recommend the routes heading to Delaware Water Gap.
And to the west, the non-highway routes above Lancaster.
And very, very west, the North-East exit from Yellowstone. Rt 212. Holy @#$@ I nearly died. Great drive though.

In the East, try the "Moon Shiner 28". You don't have to deal with traffic like the Tail of the Dragon.
