Been driving my new 2013 GT for a week! And have some questions.

I'm new to Mustangs and to stick shift vehicles, but I am VERY happy with my purchase. There are a few quirks though (some of them are me, not the car) and I figured I'd check with you guys.

Ford Sync: I've been using it with my phone. But EVERY TIME I restart the vehicle, it defaults to line in from USB instead of 'Bluetooth Device.' Can I make it default to my phone every time?

The driver door doesn't unlock properly. If I click unlock with the key-remote, and pull the door handle, the door doesn't open. As I let go of the handle, I hear the unlock-mechanism move, and then re-trying will open the door. I suspect this is an electrical or mechanical issue, but have been enjoying the car too much to take it in (I figure when I get my free Ford oil change, I'll mention it). (passenger door opens fine)

Getting into the car is easy. I have trouble getting out! Shows how not-used I am to this kind of car. I open the door, pull my legs out of the car, and then have no leverage to get myself up. It feels awkward.

I plan to only use this as a summer vehicle. Any tips on winterizing and keeping things a-okay before I place the 'stang in the garage this winter?

Also, just for the hell of it, obligatory pictures

Congrats on the purchase! I've had mine for 2 months and have not had the electrical problems you are explaining. Somebody with more knowledge can jump in here, but I would bring it back to the dealer.

As for the rest...why would you want to ever get out of the car?

Winterizing.
I just run STABIL in a full tank for the recommended ammount of time (i believe its 10min)
Open both doors
disconnect the battery.
Close doors
Manually lock
And see it in the spring.

As for the getting out part, sounds like you need to do some squats at the gym. I have no probs getting out of my Recaro's and I dont use anything to pull me out.

I have had my 2013 for 5 days and love it. I have a slight problem getting IN my car. In order for my foot to fully depress the clutch I have to have the seat set pretty far forward. So when I get in I have to squeeze between the seat and door. A fix for this however I believe is one of those clutch pedal extenders. Don't know if that would help you or not.

Regarding SYNC, mine does the same thing sometimes. When I shut off using USB, when I start the car agaian it switches to radio.

Great color car BTW.

Put one leg out and leave one leg in. Push with your right leg on the floorboard and stand up with the other. That's how I've always done it and I've always had low sitting cars. Actually this car is the highest car I've ever had.

That's hilarious. Thanks for the laugh, it was good timing on a crappy day.

I also have been wondering about the SYNC defaults. My wife's Flex seems to stay on the bluetooth input between starts if she was listening to music from her iPhone when she shuts the car off. I haven't checked whether she has to reset the line-in option if she switches from the radio to the media. My Mustang does what the OP's is doing.

I hate to add to it but these comments are too funny. Perhaps a foldout chair with wheels would do. It can be carrried on the passenger side; just pull it over, open it up and get out with your buttocks first.

You know you're old when:

1) You can't get out of a sports car easily anymore

I used to do this in little/ low cars... like my old MR2 or Cayman:

Open door, left hand or door sill, then kind of roll/ stand to get up. The sill support helps get the butt up and out with rubbing unnecessarily on the bolsters.

Or:
Open door, spin legs out, feet on ground, then stand.

I seem to recall someone else having the driver's door unlocking problem......report it to your dealer and ask for it to be fixed on your first oil change (give them notice, just in case they need to order parts).

As for garaging over winter......if you've got power in there, then buy one of these.

Mine is hooked up to one all the time.....less hassle than disconnecting/reconnecting the battery, which I used to do. Mind you, I do try and drive it at least once a month over winter, unless there's salt/snow around.

Congrats on the new ride, she's a beauty. I can help you with the door problem, as the Wifey's had the same deal with the passenger door. The latch mechanism inside the door is bad. Dealer replaced ours, and it works fine now.

As for ingress, and egress. I fall in, and crawl out.

my sync does the same stupid thing! it is so frustrating...

the sync in my fusion would "remember" my iphone no problem and start automatically as I started it...which is why I wanted to stay with a ford and go with the mustang...

Idn if they removed that feature or something, but it sure is ANNOYING!

Wow, lots of comments! I figured most of them would be about the getting-out-of-the-car, lol

Okay, so for winterizing:
Full tank of gas, get some STA-BILin there, run the vehicle, and then either disconnect the battery or use one of those trickle chargers to keep the battery good.

The door unlocking:
It's a mechanical issue, annoying but not impossible to deal with, so either take the car in now or warn the dealer prior to the first oil change.

Ford Sync:
Sounds like a lot of us have the same problem. I did some more Googling and I guess it used to allow this, but a recent firmware upgrade removed the feature. How annoying.

Getting out of the car:
Hey, I'm not old! lol I've just driven tall cars/vans for years and years. Sounds like I need to use my right foot to prop myself up, which now that I think about it sounds really obvious. Oh well, you don't know what you don't know. I'll try it tomorrow.

I've been driving pickup trucks since I sold my last Mustang 27 years ago. I'll be happy to roll out or whatever to be driving a Mustang again. Even if it makes me look old.
