It's around 5k more, but you can negotiate down obviously. I have my eyes set on a 34k premium with recaros and track pack. I wonder if they will even let me use the X-Plan with that, brings it pretty close to the invoice price of a stock premium.

The sales guy even commented that it still had a bit of new-car smell, yet I still only got $3500 for trade-in, and it was the top-of-the-line Crown Vic. I probably could easily have sold the car myself for $5-7k, but time was pressing because I didn't want a 2013, and the available Performance White 2012's were disappearing fast.

Trade-in is never a concern to me because I've done this too many times before. I wouldn't bother taking off all the mods before selling it, either. It would be way too much of a hassle, and besides, I'd have to keep my OEM parts around, and that simply ain't gonna happen because I don't have the space to store them. If I REALLY wanted a new car (and needed to trade/sell the Mustang in to accomplish that goal), I'd sell the Mustang myself and avoid letting the dealer tell me that they don't value the car as highly as i do.

Final point, I tend to keep my cars for a long time (way beyond the last payment). I wanted a Mustang, but I didn't want big payments, so I got the absolute cheapest one they had on the lot, and financed it for 75 months to make the payments as low as possible ($338). When the first payment came due this month, I made six payments at the same time, because right now, I can afford to. The low payment target was because I didn't want to have to give up the car if the economy took a broader downward turn. If the economy stays near what it is, and I don't lose my job before then, the car should be paid off in a few years.

Now, here I sit with a base V6, but I could also afford to make it LOOK the way I wanted, and have so far dropped over $11k on that endeavor. I don't need it to go faster or be louder, so I'm content with appearance. If I had gotten the Premium version, it would have been $8k more expensive, and that would have soaked up all of my mod budget, and I didn't see any value in the stuff I wouldn't use, such as being able to talk to the car via Sync, the boom-box stereo, or even the ability to control the stereo volume from the wheel.

I'm making the car into what I want, not what Ford or someone else else thinks I should have. If I have to sell it in the future, someone with the same tastes will come along and happily buy it. I'm not worried.
Love the amount of detail you've put into your site - fantastic for anyone looking to mod their own. However, one question that's totally off-topic - why do you have issue with not having a gas cap? The fuel system is designed to not need one, so is it just a security issue for you or what?

It just seemed wrong (but not as wrong as not having a spare tire). I've since purchase a locking gas cap for $19 on Amazon.

When I got my car, there was a Premium V6 sitting right next to it for $8K more. The only outward appearing difference was the charcoal base wheels (and the car was silver). Other than that, the car I bought and the premium looked exactly the same - although now that I think about it, it had a tri-bar emblem on the fender, so maybe it had an additional appearance package or something. Still, it wouldn't have mattered because as you can see by my car as it sits now, none of that stuff would still be on it anyway, so why spend the money on it?

What you started in your first post its extremely valid. Its all about what you want the car to be and what your wiling to pay for it. I wouldn't go the same root but that's just because I have different priorities. For me its a gt premium with comfort package and brembos. Nothing more and nothing less. I plan to keep the car for a long time and coming from a gt, I want the new one. And I drive my car all year round up north so heated seats are a must. Brembos are because the full package is cheapernow than it will ever be latter. That's just my way of looking at it. Everyone has different reasons for what they do. Everything else like navigation, reverse sensors or overpriced audio is worthless to me. The can friggin keep it.

There's always been different levels of trim on vehicles.

Older farts can generally afford a little more than the younger guys. Plus our ***** are bonier and we need more pampering cause it makes us cranky.

Get what you want and can afford. To be able to get these V6's and GT's for $22.2 and 30.7K base msrp is awesome. My hat's off to all who buy these. All things considered I can't see driving anything else.

Fell in love with and wanted this interior (where I spend all my time...over 19K in 11 months all for pleasure) and all that came with it. Makes me think new and improved '69-'70 muscle.

My only regret is not ordering the comfort pkg. Smaller women can barely see over the dash and most aren't as warm blooded as me.

Hear some folks ocassionally say the Mustang interior seems cheap. I don't think mine is at all. Very impressed with it.

Getting the features, including leather seats, later out of a junk yard? No, thank-you. Read any threads about, for example, folks being unhappy with the performance of the standard headlights and trying to upgrade to an HID setup?

I had a base 2010 GT; never thought I really gave a hoot about all the extras, but now that I have a 2012 GT Premium, would never go back (5.0 aside of course, lol)

I decided to get the premium, no nav or comfort package, but track pack and recaros. No looking back for me.

Well I had the 2010 GT Premium with every option available at the time. I went from that to the 2012 Boss 302. The only thing I missed was the Sync system. Now for my 2013 I went with the Base GT Coupe with Track Pack. Tech Package (Sync) and Recaros. I honestly didn't miss all the frilly stuff. If the car was my daily driver... maybe I would but since it not I went with just the goodies I really wanted.

im thinking the car had to have some option on it since premiums only cost like 3-4k more. The extra money is worth every single penny. The leather and the options. The car should look the same. To glue on soem parts doesnt make the car better... having better options makes it better.

I'm old school and could care less about fancy/luxury crap in a Mustang.
IMO, sync, rear view camera's, pretty interior lights, etc is a waste.
I bought my Mustang for that, a Mustang. Power and the raw simplicity of the car.
I make my car the way I like it.
