2011 Automatic
Stock - 363 rwhp
C&L "No Tune" - 374 rwhp
Tune Only - 379 rwhp
CAI "Tune Required" - 385 rwhp

A tune is only worth 11 rwhp or a CAI is only worth 6 rwhp, which is it? In my opinion neither is the whole story.

The "No Tune" purportedly had no effect on AFR yet gained 11 rwhp.

The Tune alone was worth 16 rwhp.

Yet the two combined (with insert removed from CAI) could only muster 22 rwhp...

Just goes to show why its dangerous to "Add Mods" with Ricer Math.

To be continued...

Unless you're getting the CAI used, that is likely not a good hp to $ return. As you add other modifications, perhaps the new CAI becomes more beneficial . . .
Back when I bought it was $449 for a JLTII / SCT Combo so I thought it was a decent deal. Dont know about rwhp but I gained 4/10 and 3.5 mph. Havnt seen to many tune only 2005-2009 in the 12's.

Yet SCT and a few others got 20-30rwhp with just a tune alone? Yet Bama only got 16. This is what i mean very confusing.

Well just to throw another one into the mix....

A Livernois 5.0 Automatic went 12.77 @ 111 on a 87 Octane Tune Only (Thats right they tuned it for Regular).

The video shows going from 354 to 375rwhp with 87. So would 93 to 93 show less of a gain?

Generally the trend has been that manuals pick up more than autos. My assumption would be going from a conservative 91 Tune to an aggressive 93 Tune on 93 would gain more than a form stock to tuned on 87 octane.

On a very hot day (95F+ and 90%+ Humidity) which cant really be corrected for because of the cars pulling timing due to IAT a customer car with the same strategy code as Brent's car went from 346 rwhp to 375 rwhp (Same outputas Brent's car the same day).

Reportedly the Steeda Intake added another 15 rwhp to 390 rwhp.

What Im wondering is if some of the higher figures are coming from cars in break-in mode and tuning some of that out as well as tuning some of the timing pulled by IAT out on a hot day. That could end up with some big numbers.

I must admit that this all HP increase with CAI and tune can be very confusing at times. So many variables are involved. All i know for sure is that my Steeda CAI and 93 tune has woken up my car big time. It just doesn't drive the same anymore. It just pulls, pulls, pulls. I might go for the dyno very soon, i'm just too curious not to know how much HP it's making.

2014 v6 convertable auto

Played around with the performance tune yesterday a bit.....It worked ok. I could see hpw I could use that for a long drive as the rpms tend to stay pretty low and the car gets up to speed with little gas pedal push....So for today I threw on the 93 race tune.....HOLY CRAP what an insane difference....Effortless acceleration. Love it. Best first mod I threw on her besides just a K&N drop in!

Tunes are great way to gain power especially within the low rpm torque range. My preference is a tune by a professional with a set of rollers so you can actually keep the car air fuel mixture proper and lower the risk of long term internal damage. I used a Bama tune on a 2010 I once owned and it did wake the 4.6 up. I dynoed it for $75 to see if there was an appreciable gain and it was. I had 287 rwhp on a Mustang Dyno which is known to be about 15% lower than the Dyno Jet. The operator did say I was running way to rich, so now I am cautious with box tunes. With the 2014 GT I have now there is no tune, 0-60 in 4.3 and 1/4 mile 12.7 at 113. Of course these numbers are from factory installed track apps and can be error on either side. I will be supercharging my vehicle within a year and this is why I am holding off on a custom tune.
