"AXLE PROMO PACKAGE"?

I've been looking for a 2013 GT Coupe Premium lately so I've seen hundreds of window stickers. On 2 or 3 of them I've seen a discount listed under Optional Equipment for an "AXLE PROMO PACKAGE" listed at -$995.

Anyone know what this is?

Did you check with the Ford site?

Or maybe the Ford customer service person that is a member on this site would know.

I was hoping she would respond here. I've sent her two PM's regarding another subject (one last week, & one this week) and she hasn't responded.

Couldn't find it on Ford's website or in the brochure.

Thank you, guys. I’m going to need one of those VINs, StangNut. I don’t see that as a package anywhere.

BTW, I’m still catching up from the holiday break… plus system issues… I look like this right about now…

Thanks GT350Clone. Love your avatar. IMO, the 65/66 GT350 is by far the best looking Mustang ever built.

I wonder if it has anything to do with Ford changing from 3.55 to 3.31 as standard equipment on the GT. The pic is from an early 2013 order guide.

Deysha,
Did you find out what that package was? Here's another VIN if you need it. It's from one of the cars you found for me. 1ZVBP8CF9D5281305

The axle promo code is Ford's way of acknowledging that many customers don't want the 3.31 gears in their manual transmission GT's. Lots of customers are opting to special order GT's with 3.55's and 3.73's instead of buying the 3.31's, so Ford opted to reprice the cars $995 lower with 3.31's to help move them, but they also bumped base MSRP up $450 on the remaining 2013's (just like the 2014's), so the actual savings is $545.

So much for the big axle ratio debate... Get a track pack or brembo pack for the 3:73 goodness! Yeah 1st gear is a little steep, but 2nd and 3rd are great! It's just what the doctor ordered for your 400+ hp pony.

^^^Great info, Five Oh Brian! I'm also researching on my end as well, StangNut.

Still wish Ford would have let me have 3.73's stock in my convertible.

Reminds me of the old days when you could get a IROC with a 305 with T-Tops and manual transmission, but a IROC with a 350 was always automatic, and rarely with T-Tops.

Stupid limitations.

I'm with you Diva, I even had the dealer call Ford and ask if they could get 3.73's before we ordered my vert., obviously no was the answer. I still can't figure out why? they can't do it.

I feel the same way. There's lots of "extras I don't want on my car, but I have to get them to get the 5.0.

Torques the chassis too much in a convertible.

But a GT500 vert with 3.73s doesn't?
