Axle is leaking

Hey guy,

So i got underneath my car last night to install my Uca and I've noticed my axle is leaking from the left side of the axle tube. I did some snooping around on some past threads and it was mentioned that the leak maybe coming from an Axle vent cap?

The car only has around 18k on it and I was wondering if i should just take it back to the dealership or is it a quick fix for something such as replacing this Axle vent cap? Also, if i installed my upper control arm do you guys think it would possibly be an issue with the dealership fixing the leak warranty wise?

Depending on the dealership, but ford does have a bladder vent they can put on it. http://www.svtperformance.com/forums/showthread.php?775797-Rear-axle-vent-leak-what-is-the-solution
Your control arms shouldn't cause an issue with warranty work.

Awesome, thanks! I've been dying to install my uca for a week now. I'm gonna install it later today and schedule an appointment to drop my car off at the dealership.

Thanks again!

Yes, it's venting. You can buy a catch can for it. Google Bob's catch can.

Could also be the axel bearing seals. Mine were just replaced. All the stuff with the axels and diff fall under the power train warranty. Mine had about 45k when they did it.

I have the bladder mounted on the top of the GT500 differential cover for about a year now with no problems.

I just did it all myself because I had 60K miles and figured a fluid change could not hurt and I really don't like going to the dealer.

This is normal. Mine did the exact same thing. I'm told its normal and will eventually stop (which it did) . Happens when the cars new.

Rear axle? If yes, there's a tsb on that to replace pinion seal on rear axle.

I'd look at the Pinion Seal Area, if it's dry, it's not the Pinion Seal. If what you're seeing is mostly on top of the Drivers Side Axle Tube, it's the Vent. There is a Ford TSB, I have a 2013 GT, just took mine to the Dealership last week, they cleaned the Axle Tube, and changed the Vent with a New Type, checked Gear Lube Level, added 1/2 Quart, Plus new Friction Modifier. Job should only take 40 Minutes!
