I drove a stick for 40 something years until I got tired of all the shifting and decided to get an auto when I bought my 2010 Fusion S. I traded it off for this auto Mustang and didn't know anything about the Sport Shift until I got it home and looked at the manual for the first time. I guess my sales guy figured I knew about it because it was never mentioned.

I'm figuring it out little by little and having fun with it. It's the best of both worlds, I can shift when I'm out driving for fun or just kick back and drive to work on auto mode.

You got it, Bob. I was surprised when I found that it didn't go into 6th in Sport Mode, but you could shift it into 6th with the toggle switch. I used the SelectShift Mode a lot on a recent road trip. I've learned that if I've only gone up to 3rd and am going to have to come to a stop, I shift up to 4th so that it will downshift to 1st for me. I love having the choices.

It's probably in the manual but I haven't had time to look. Can select shift be activated on the fly or do you have to come to a stop first?

Im jealous. I had an auto on order but they kept having delay after delay so dealer offered me the Manual they had in the showroom. It already had GT500 ab's, Pro cal tune, Boss wheels lowered etc. I couldn't pass that up for the same price. I love the car until I hit traffic.

Two cents on this auto select shift. I've had the bad, 2004 Grand Prix comp gtp with steering wheel paddles (garbage). 2008 Cadillac cts performance pack with Select shift on the gear selector ( fantastic). And a 2006 dodge charger r/t with select shift on the gear selector (stupid). The wheel mounted version as stated before is just flat out clumsy and borderline unusable. The dodge select shi# (that's right :-) ) never felt settled and you had to flop from the left to right to change gears. Now the caddy oh it felt as a select shift should, push the selector to the right and you were in auto manual mode. Up gear push up, down shift push down. It is where it makes sense to shift and your hands are quickly back on the wheel. If only my 2014 had this.....it would be perfect. And maybe that Cadillac interior.

my sole gripe with the auto (when in normal D) is when you do a rolling stop to 5-10 mph and you press the gas to pull away and you get that annoying unnatural kick from the tranny.

that and sometimes coming down a tight cloverleaf onramp at 20-30 mph with a short merging area and needing to juice it and the tranny doesnt downshift to get you moving quickly

SHIFT ON THE FLY

You can do almost anything you want. Just keep using it and you will get better with time. Be aware that while down shifting you what gear you are in and watch the tachometer as not to over rev the engine.

If anyone cares to put a tune on the PCM the transmission can be made to be extremely user friendly when using DRIVE in the auto tranny. It makes the car much more fun to drive.

I'm pretty sure the computer will not let you over rev.

I have recently retrofitted the sport shift into my 2012. Been having some fun with it. I like controlling the shifts myself.

I was wondering the same thing. It won't let you upshift too early, I know that.

You're right. I had forgotten about that.

I did downshift a dealer car into first at 20MPH, but that is well within the safe range for first.

I retrofitted the 2013/14 instrument cluster into my 2012 (the cluster with the LCD screen between the tach and speedo instead of the guages). I thought that was the coolest part of the 13/14 cars.

In order to make it work right, I had to flash my PCM to a 2013. But with my PCM thinking it is a 2013, it was not recognizing when I manually put the car into 1 2 or 3. It would think it was an error and give me a wrench symbol which I had to clear using my VCM II. The PCM was expecting signals for the select shift, which it was not getting.

I decided to buy an automatic shifter box and install it to make the error code go away. I only needed the shifter and the shifter box cover.

To make it work, I checked the wiring diagrams. I only needed to run the wires from the sport select shift **** all the way to the PCM. The wires are supposed to go into one of the pins in the plug. On the 2012, those slots for the pins are empty, but when I inserted the pins and hooked up the wires, presto - I now have sport select shift.

The write up for this is in the How To for installing the 13/14 cluster in the interior mods section. Post number 3.

Now that I have it, I have played around with it a bit. I like that I can put it in the proper gear and tromp on it now. I don't like that if I'm a little clumsy with the button I could shift it down when I meant to shift up (or vice versa). That paddle shifter ad on from that youtube video is very intriguing. If only it didn't look like a snap on kit - which is what it is ...

Cheers
