Actually I completely agree. I cannot lock or unlock the car if im more than 20 feet away.

Extremely annoying because im very forgetful and second guess myself after I already lock my car and think to myself "hey did I lock the car?" as im walking away but chances are im more than 20 feet away and there isnt anything i can do about it since im too far away. So i have to walk back to check.

maybe im just lazy too?

Not sure what my range is, but I almost wish it was shorter, or that there was some kind of lock like cell phones have. Multiple times since I've bought the car the alarm has gone off at night due to something pressing against my pocket and hitting the panic alarm button (I'm sure the neighbors love that). Makes me wonder how many times my car has been unlocked without my knowledge from something pressing against the key fob in my pocket.

The best reason I can think of for wanting a long range is to make it easy to find your car in a parking lot when you forget where you parked.

All this makes me wonder if there could be a market for programmable key fobs, where you could set up not only the buttons but at what ranges they can trigger (up to some max supported by the system and battery charge). That would be awesome. I would disable the panic alarm (has anyone ever even heard of someone being helped or saved by a vehicle panic alarm? I didn't think so), set the unlock and trunk pop to a very short range, and lock to a long range.

Why do you need 1,000 foot range?

Sometimes I just completely forget if I locked it or not. The inability to turn around on my walk to the building and lock it from more than 20 feet away is pretty ridiculous. I'll try a new battery and see if it works..with my '08 I could lock it from inside my building with no problem.

I have found that if there are other cars between me and my car, that the range of the fob is greatly reduced. When its a clear shot the range maybe doubles.

Yesturday it worked from about 5 parking rows away, clear shot.

Two days ago, did not work from 3 parking rows away, many vehicles in the way.

I know this sounds kind of weird, but if you hold the fob under your chin you can increase the range. Give it a try.

My '06 would only activate from 50 feet or so, but my '10 is good for about 50 yards (both factory alarms). Dunno if they have intentionally altered range over the years, or if it varies from car to car.

If someone reading this works at a dealership with multiple new Mustangs in stock with factory alarms, it would be interesting to see if they do vary even when new.

Not parking spots, parking rows...

Parking spots are 10' wide each. Parking rows are 20' long + 20' between each pair of rows

5 parking rows away is about 180'. That would be 18 spots away.

3 parking rows would be 80' - 8 spots away.
