Anyone know how to track a railcar?
Trying to track a specific CSX railcar.
Has anyone done this?
Lots of 'net traffic from the Camaro guys and the F150 forums on it but nothing is working so far.

Never mind.
Did it myself. Called CSX (1-877-744-7279) and then picked an option for railcar information (5) and then (3) for locate (TouchTrace automated tracing system). It then connects the call to the CSX Touch Trace. Then say "location". And then it asks for you to speak the railcar letters and then the numbers.
Mine is in New Boston, MI (Ramp 5P) with no ETA. Guess they're loading it today.

I did the same thing with Norfolk Southern, their customer service number is on their website, 1st time I called, I didn't have railcar info, they asked for the last 8 digits of my vin #, works like a charm. It's my understanding that the dealers have access to all this info. My dealer kept me updated but I would call Norfolk myself from time to time just being curious.

Yeah, as most people here have learned, being able to do it yourself is far better than waiting for the dealer to volunteer the information.
It almost seems like if you don't tell them EXACTLY what they need to do (e.g., "Please go into vehicle visibility and tell me exactly what the last tracking entry says") you end up with, "I don't have any new information."
Customers should HAVE to know this much about Ford's operations.

Wow. My dealer didn't tell me $h!t. I asked and asked and asked for all the information that he could get me. All he was able to do for me was show me a large paper print out (like dot-matrix style) for all the vehicles that he had on order and highlight mine. It told me very little. He couldn't even tell me any date information besides build date (approx). No serial date, no sequence date, not even an acurate ship date. Then when it got there, they didn't even call until that afternoon, when it was in thier garage when they got there that morning! It was bad. I'm jealous of all the information some of you guys/gals are getting. I didn't know about how to get all this stuff before. I had never ordered a car and apparently the dealership hadn't ever met someone who asked for all that info.

What I do find amazing is that CSX has better customer tracking information than Ford. LOL!

There is no reason in the world why Ford couldn't track their cars like U.P.S. do their items. I can order a $2 item and track it every step of the way to my house LOL!!! It would be so easy for Ford and all the other car producers to do this.

It should say on the detailed status update. Call your dealership and they can look it up for you. Ask them for the rail number next to the shipping company name and that should be all the info you need.

Finally got my railcar number, but no status available
Has anyone every gotten a no status available message? Do you think this means it didn't even ship yet?
"Car ETTX700015 has no status available"
Thanks for any help.
