True story.

Yea, PETA is still ticked off about that.

I know my wheels are black but I will change them the second I can to machined. I hate black wheels too... and I've had them on my other cars... ugh. It makes no sense.

That being said, on VERY few cars, it does look amazing!!!

When did the black wheel trend really take off in the wrong direction?

I picked up black Steeda Pentars for my 2006 Mustang back in '07. At that time, I did not see too many cars with black rims besides cop cars and SUVs riding snow tires on cheap stock steelies for winter abuse. I went with black because everything on the road at the time was running the pollished/brushed/machined alloy or chrome look. I wanted something dramatically different from my stock Ford FanBlades and most everything else on the road. Yet now, the black rims (gloss though mostly matte) seem to be the mod of choice for the faux-racer look.

On some cars the black wheels look ok, Other's look really hot! But a lot look terrible either due to the car's primary paint color or just the wheel design itself being too gawdy.

On my car, I still like them, though the gloss black on the rims can make my tires look like crap because I am not one into the total shiney-wet-look-tire-treatments.

Like everything, literally everything, fads come and go. As evidence, I recently re-started the brushed-aluminum look.

Not all of us have $4k to spend on wheels

And if I did I'd have gotten black ones lol

Or at least black chrome

FIA stripes were first used on A/C Cobras to indicate team cars.

Le Mans stripes (on Mustangs) were first used on Pete Brocks car as a tribute to the Cunninghams that raced LeMans in the 50's, and they served to make the cars more visible on the track.

I really like the brushed aluminum look, epsecially on yours. I ordered the chrome alcoa look alikes from BMC, but wish they were brushed instead. Considerably cheaper than alcoa's so i can live with that. Thinking of getting my ford racing rims darkened to gun metal, or black chrome.

Originally, I wanted to buy an OEM set of base Boss wheels and have the black centers painted the same color as the Brembo Package wheels. Now, I want 20s...

I don't care who started it. They look so out of place on our stangs.

Everyone has their own taste. Just wanted everyone to know the origin of the stripes.

I went to a cruise last nite with this thread in mind. So many modern muscle cars...Mustangs, Challengers, 'Vettes, and Vipers...had black wheels (no Camaros...they were in the shop for recalls).

Some looked good, but the cars that caught my eye were the ones that didn't have all black rims. Seeing chrome on several newer Mustangs looked refreshing.

Conversely, there were a couple of 60's cars who also had black wheels and they looked horrendous. Worst yet was a gorgeous black 64 Malibu, chromed and detailed small block, but sporting 20" rubber bands wrapped around a chromed set of very modern wheels. It turned me right off.

come on people, lol
next thing you know, people with black wheels will be told to go to the back of the parade. sheesh

I plan on having both and switching it up every couple months
Chrome to bling it out for shows,
black or black chrome or satin to make the carbon fibre pop.

no discrimination here LOL
