Unhappy Another Mustang accident thread.

Most importantly, no one was hurt. Driving home from work today, I was just going down the road when a young lady coming out of a gas station thought she could make it across two lanes of traffic by making an illegal left turn. She was wrong. I locked up the brakes and slammed into her. My steering wheel and side airbags deployed. The cover for the power windows popped off. The front end and hood needs replacing. This is all I can tell so far. I don't think her car will be getting fixed. She had a Chevy Cruze. I was told that her control arm broke which popped the axle out, and her tranny fluid was all over. Anyway, the police came and did their thing. I was told that it all on her and that the report will reflect that. My car is already at the body shop. It's a family member's so I'm in good hands as far as the repair goes. I have a rental lined up for the morning. I'm so bummed. Here are gruesome pics:

Oh man, sorry to hear that. I know how you feel slightly, although yours was much worse than mine.

Glad to hear no one was hurt.

Thanks. Sorry about yours. Hopefully, she will be as good as new before too long.

I was doing 40ish and it was a front impact for me. Scared the hell out of me. I never experienced an airbag deployment before.

Goes to show that the Mustangs are built pretty tough considering the speed that you state. I've seen a lot worse damage from slower crashes. Glad no one was hurt!

LOL! I just want my car back. I feel like a worried parent who's child is in the hospital. My rental is a Chrysler 200. :-/

Good thing you're alright. I'm surprised too that the airbags went off, but you must have slowed a lot more than you realize before you hit because that is definitely not 40 mph damage.

This is a 40 mph front offset collision.

Wow. I was doing around 40 before I stood on the brakes. So, yes, I guess I did slow quite a bit.

Thanks. She will be. My brother-in-law has a collision shop and they do amazing work. She's in good hands. He told me they would give her special attention, be meticulous and check everything.

Chris, sorry to see this. But no injuries is the main thing. But, putting you in a Chrysler 200 just adds insult to injury.....I think.

Hope they get your baby on the road soon.

Thanks. Once work starts, which I'm guessing/hoping will be next week sometime, I was told the repair would take 8 days.

Getting a Chrysler 200 as a rental is like a slap in the face lol! Glad you are ok though! Hope that Chrysler holds up for the 8 days you have to drive it!

Glad everyone is ok. Hope your stallion is back to new in no time.

As for the airbags, the sensors that trigger them are basically accelerometers (ok, the algorithms are more complex and factor in deformation and timing of the G readings, but rate of change of decel, or "jerk" is one major criteria). You must have reached a peak G load higher than the threshold to fire in a very short amount of time.

And to make you feel better about the Mustang, early Camaro's would mis-fire the side curtain air bags when people were doing donuts. The rear of the car would hop sideways, and cause a large change in lateral acceleration which lead the airbag computer to think that the vehicle is rolling over. That would ruin your day, huh?

Glad you are ok.
Sucks seeing anyone's car being in an accident. Good luck!

Thanks, guys. I really appreciate it. I'm slowly coming out of my funk, for which my wife is very appreciative.
